DESCRIPTION OF WORK

As a Safety Specialist Trainee, you will have the opportunity to participate in formal and on-the-job training designed to develop professional and technical safety management work in the administration, training, and management of safety programs for Engineering District 2-0. Duties will entail engaging in the coordination, implementation, and maintenance of policies and procedures to institute an effective safety program. You will also learn how to monitor programs to ensure compliance, provide training, and conduct on-site visits for all components of the Accident/Injury Prevention Program (AIPP). Within this role, you will participate in the Accident Review Committee which involves investigating all catastrophic injuries and accidents and working with management to ensure corrective action plans are in place and enacted. In addition, you will learn how to coordinate all accident (personal injury, fleet, and equipment) reports, participate in accident and injury investigations within the required time frames, and route accident packages through the Accident Review Committee. Work Schedule and Additional Information:
- Full-time employment
- Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
- Overtime and travel overnight as necessary for training and meetings.
- Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in District 2-0. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time. Additional details may be provided during the interview.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
- Four years of technical experience in conducting safety inspections, safety investigations, or safety training, or performing technical highway maintenance or highway construction work; or
- A bachelor's degree in Safety Management, Occupational Safety and Health Management, Industrial Hygiene, or a closely related field; or
- An equivalent combination of experience and training.
- Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within 3 months of graduating with a qualifying degree.
Special Requirements:
- This position requires you to obtain an active Advanced Safety Certificate issued by the National Safety Council's Safety Training Institute within two years of starting in this job.
Other Requirements:
- This particular position also requires possession of a valid non-commercial Class C driver's license.
