DES 177: Computer-Assisted Fashion Design -Studio-4 hours; lecture/discussion-2 hours. Prerequisite: DES 77, DES 1, (DES 14 or DES 21), DES 15, DES 16 or consent of instructor. Priority given to Design majors. Course Description: Advanced exploration of apparel design processes for industry and personal expression with emphasis on computer-assisted design applications. DES 177 introduces students to Browzwear and VStitcher software in a Mac environment, covering the fundamentals of CAD pattern making, 3D garment simulation, digital textile print design, and technical package (tech pack) development. Students will gain hands-on experience integrating digital tools into the apparel design workflow, preparing them for careers in fashion, costume, product development, and related industries. Design at UC Davis is unique within the University of California system and presents itself as a global model for design education with a research focus. Applicants must have professional experience in a design field related to the curriculum. Appointment Dates: Responsibilities: Teach CAD pattern drafting, 3D garment fitting and rendering, and digital print preparation. Guide students in creating and editing tech packs for professional industry use. Assess and provide feedback on student work, both in-progress and final projects. Maintain a collaborative, creative, and inclusive classroom environment. Qualifications: Demonstrated teaching ability and experience. A developing record of creative, scholarly, or professional achievement in an area of expertise related to the subject area, as described in this announcement. Familiarity with Mac OS and standard design software (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite). Experience creating and interpreting tech packs for apparel production.
