THE POSITION

If so, we have the perfect job for you at Landis Valley Village & Farm Museum, one of the Commonwealth's busiest and most high-profile museums. The Pennsylvania Historical & Museum Commission is looking for an energetic, experienced professional to complete regular repair and preventative maintenance duties on structures, systems, and equipment; groundskeeping; and additional support work for overall site operation. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

Located outside of Lancaster, PA, Landis Valley Village & Farm Museum is a 100-acre, living history complex that preserves and interprets the lives and legacy of the Pennsylvania Germans and Pennsylvania's agricultural history, using over 50 buildings, dynamic exhibits and educational programs, special events, and a collection of 200,000 artifacts.

As a steward of the historic site, you will be called upon to exercise your carpentry, construction, painting, electrical, masonry, mechanical, plumbing, and landscaping/grounds keeping trade skills on a daily basis. You will be responsible for ensuring the site is clean, presentable, and ready to be enjoyed by the tens of thousands of guests who visit each year.

In this position, you will support site operations by ensuring building systems and equipment are functioning properly, by assisting with set-up and tear-down for special programs and events, and by responding to after-hours alarms. Additionally, this position gives you the opportunity to assist with the preservation of historic buildings and to learn or expand your knowledge of fire and security systems and their monitoring.

A candidate with a well-rounded background in equipment operation and maintenance as well as the plumbing, carpentry, landscaping, masonry, painting, and electrical trades will find job fulfillment and room to grow in this position!

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
    • Occasional evening, weekend, and holiday work for special events and operational needs will be required. This position is also required to respond to after-hours alarms.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Two years of experience as a Maintenance Repairman 1 (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
  • Four years of experience in building and plant maintenance work, which has involved at least two of the building, electrical, or mechanical trades; or
  • Any equivalent combination of experience and training that affords the applicant with the Required Knowledges, Skills, and Abilities.

Special Requirements:

  • This position requires possession of a valid Pennsylvania Class C Driver's License.

Additional Requirements:

  • You must have 2 years or more experience in the operation and maintenance of equipment, hand tools, and power tools.
  • You must have 2 years or more experience in the operation and maintenance of vehicles including trucks, utility vehicles, lawn mowers, and snow removal equipment.
  • You must have 2 years or more experience completing routine building repairs involving but not limited to plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and HVAC systems.
  • You must have 2 years or more experience performing grounds keeping work and snow removal.
  • You must have 2 years or more experience identifying maintenance issues and solving problems.
  • You must have 2 years or more experience performing skilled and heavy manual labor indoors and outdoors.
  • You must have 2 years or more experience communicating effectively verbally, electronically, and in writing.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

Preferred Qualifications (not required):

  • Four or more years of experience in each of the following areas:
    • Carpentry, construction, and metalworking projects using hand and power tools
    • Routine electrical maintenance and repairs
    • Routine plumbing maintenance and repairs
  • Experience relating to the management of a multifaceted HVAC and Fire and Security system that utilizes automated building control systems, boiler heating system, the air handling system, the air conditioning & humidification system, and the fire suppression sprinkler system
  • Experience working with blueprints
  • Experience working with contractors, other staff, and volunteers

Legal Requirements:

  • This position falls under the provisions of the Child Protective Services Law.
