The Department of Transportation is actively looking to hire a Driver License Examiner Assistant. This vital role within PennDOT involves supporting the operations at the Driver License Center, where the primary focus is on enhancing highway safety. The Assistant will engage directly with customers at the counter, facilitating the processing of their applications and inquiries. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

The role of a Driver License Examiner Assistant is centered around a Driver License Center, where they facilitate driver licensing and related services for the public. This position entails a range of responsibilities, including professionally greeting customers and engaging directly with them to verify identification, assist in completing application forms, and inputting data into online driver license application systems. The assistant also provides necessary forms and informational brochures tailored to the specific needs of each customer. Additionally, they administer standardized knowledge tests to assess applicants' comprehension of motor vehicle regulations, driving laws, and traffic control devices, while conducting vision screenings using a telebinocular instrument to ensure visual acuity for all applicants.

In this capacity, the assistant is responsible for accurately entering test results and customer applications into online software systems via a PC terminal. They must independently address inquiries and concerns from the public, demonstrating a thorough understanding of the services offered and the requirements for each, including the criteria for obtaining REAL ID and non-REAL ID products. Furthermore, they provide essential information regarding various services such as driver's license renewals, duplicates, out-of-state transfers, motorcycle licenses, and commercial driver's licenses (CDLs), ensuring familiarity with the specific restrictions and endorsements associated with commercial licenses. Upon request, the assistant generates Restoration Requirements Letters for customers who visit in person, while also ensuring that the correct fee waiver codes are applied and documented whenever necessary, in compliance with the Fee Waiver Guidelines. Adherence to the Driver and Vehicle Services Customer Service Policy and REAL ID regulations is paramount, as is the issuance and scanning of the Non-Native Born US Citizen/Non-US Citizen Courtesy Form when additional information is required.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 8:15 AM to 4:45 PM, Tuesday - Saturday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • Overtime and travel to other driver license centers as necessary.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • One year of experience obtaining, evaluating, and providing information to the public.
