We're actively seeking a talented Director Actuary on our Pension Risk Transfer (PRT) - Asset and Liability Management (ALM) team in Newport Beach, CA or Omaha NE. This role is hybrid; we believe in empowering our employees to get work done both in and out of the office.

As a Director Actuary - PRT ALM you'll move Pacific Life, and your career, forward by playing a key role in Pacific Life's growth and long-term success by leading the ALM pricing workflows for our Pension Risk Transfer (PRT) business. You will work closely and collaboratively with numerous areas across the enterprise including Pricing and Product Development, Risk Management, Modeling, Investments, and Enterprise ALM. The Institutional Division is a rapidly growing and innovative Division, as such this role provides a great opportunity to continue to enhance the pricing process, think outside the box, and build oneself as an expert on the pricing of innovative products that are both novel to the company and the insurance industry.

You will fill a new role that sits on a team of 15 within the Institutional Division. Your colleagues will include actuaries and pricing analysts with varied backgrounds in PRT, ALM, reinsurance, mortality setting, and capital management. The PRT Pricing teams works in a fast-paced and constantly evolving marketspace. We value flexibility, agility, and teamwork and complete work in a matrix design to allow for the most efficient resource management. If you are experienced in the PRT, annuities, or ALM and are a self-starter with a strong technical background and experience leading a team, you would make a great fit for this role.

How you'll help move us forward:

  • Lead PRT Pricing Strategy: Oversee transaction pricing, assumption setting, and bid execution for PRT deals. Ensure pricing aligns with enterprise risk appetite and profitability goals

  • Stakeholder Management: Present and defend pricing results and assumption/methodology changes to key stakeholders.

  • ALM Integration: Develop and refine ALM models to assess interest rate risk, liquidity risk, and duration mismatch. Collaborate with the investments team to optimize asset portfolios

  • Cross-Functional Leadership: Serve as a key liaison between pricing, valuation, reinsurance, capital, and risk. Lead initiatives that improve process efficiency and team culture

  • Team Development: Mentor actuarial students and actuaries. Provide clear feedback and foster a collaborative, high-performance environment

  • Innovation & Thought Leadership: Champion new ideas and lead initiatives from ideation to execution. Influence working norms and process improvements across the PRT team

The experience you bring:

  • FSA or EA with 6+ years of related experience in actuarial pricing, ALM, and product development.

  • Bachelor's degree in Actuarial Science, Finance, Mathematics, Computer Science, or related field.

  • Direct experience with Pension Risk Transfer or Annuity products

  • Ability to understand the big picture and mobilize initiatives in ambiguous situations.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and the Prophet Asset Liability Strategy Library

  • Strong management, team-building, and communication skills.

  • Excellent project management and business partnering abilities.

  • Proven leadership with a strong sense of urgency.

  • FSA or EA with 10+ years of actuarial experience.

  • Prior experience with Pension Risk Transfer transaction pricing.

  • Thought leader with a mindset focused on continuous improvement, sustainability, and scalability.

  • Ability to multitask with shifting priorities under tight deadlines while maintaining calm composure and flexibility in handling urgent requests.

  • Self-starter with strong analytical skills and attention to detail.

  • Experience with actuarial modeling and statistical analysis programs, particularly Prophet

Base Pay Range:

The base pay range noted represents the company's good faith minimum and maximum range for this role at the time of posting. The actual compensation offered to a candidate will be dependent upon several factors, including but not limited to experience, qualifications and geographic location. Also, most employees are eligible for additional incentive pay.

$198,810.00 - $242,990.00
