The Project Accounting Manager plays a critical role in aligning financial oversight with project execution. This position ensures the financial success of the firm's architecture and engineering (A&E) projects by partnering with project managers, principals, and finance staff. The ideal candidate brings a strong understanding of project lifecycles, hands-on accounting experience, and the ability to lead, streamline, and continuously improve project financial processes.

About You

We're looking for someone with:




  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • Minimum 5 years of progressive experience in project accounting in an A&E, construction, or professional services environment.
  • Deep understanding of A&E project structures, billing methodologies (T&M, fixed fee, cost-plus), and contractual compliance.
  • Proficient in ERP systems such as Deltek Vision/Vantagepoint/BST.
  • Advanced Excel skills, including financial modeling and data analysis.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Proven ability to manage priorities in a deadline-driven, collaborative environment.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Able to facilitate effective communication among cross-functional teams and leadership groups.
  • Supervises a team of remote Project Accountants and Senior Project Accountants.
  • Lead and mentor the project accounting team, including onboarding, training, and conducting performance evaluations.
  • Operates with a high degree of independence and accountability, aligned with strategic priorities from the Finance Team and Business Group leadership.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Able to facilitate effective communication among cross-functional teams and leadership groups.

  • Experience with FAR/DFARS and government contracting compliance.
  • Familiarity working in a matrixed or multi-disciplinary team setting.
  • Demonstrated success in improving accounting processes, reporting accuracy, and operational efficiency.



About the Role

In this position, you'll work with a highly collaborative team to:




  • Oversee the financial management of multiple projects, including setup, budgeting, forecasting, reporting, and cost control.
  • Partner with business group leads, project managers, and principals to monitor budgets, schedules, and profitability throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Establish and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) to evaluate project financial health, team performance, and process efficiency.
  • Develop, document, and revise standard operating procedures (SOPs) for project billing to ensure accuracy, consistency, and compliance with contractual and internal requirements.
  • Oversee the billing process to ensure invoices are completed accurately and on time, in accordance with contract terms and client requirements.
  • Create and standardize procedures to ensure consistent tracking of project schedules, budgets, and resource planning within Deltek Vantagepoint.
  • Generate and analyze financial reports such as WIP (Work-in-Progress), project profitability, burn rate, and budget-to-actual variance.
  • Ensure compliance with FAR, GAAP, and firm policies, including government contracting requirements as applicable.
  • Drive continuous improvement in project accounting processes and controls.
  • Collaboratively with Contracts & Risk Manager use data to support preparation of cost proposals, including reviewing pricing (rate management), compliance, and assessing risk
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with the broader finance team to support monthly closes and revenue recognition.
  • Develop and maintain financial models to support project forecasting, staffing strategies, and rate planning.
  • Assist with evaluating potential project opportunities and preparing business cases.



Location

This is a hybrid position based in our Bellevue office. We are also open to candidates who are based out of Seattle.

The expected compensation range for this position for employees based in the Bellevue/Seattle area is $100,000 - $145,000 annually and is dependent upon skills, experience, education and geographical location.
