The Environmental Engineer will operate within the organizational structure to provide Environmental management for Avient Protective Materials. This position consults with and advises staff locally and globally as well as local, state, and national regulatory authorities. Provides technical and environmental management services for Avient Protective Materials. Manages local, state and federal permitting, environmental reporting within APM and to third parties, regulatory equipment, environmental compliance systems, and all required documentation and regulatory reports. Leads environmental and sustainability improvements projects. Provides technical expertise to the department and serves as an expert to the organization. Communicates within the APM Dyneema organization about environmental and sustainability matters. Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Ensures regulatory compliance and provides guidance enabling the site to minimize environmental and compliance risks and meet all corporate, regulatory and legal obligations. Develops, implements/coordinates and monitors environmental programs.
- Develop and maintain the strategy for Avient Protective Materials to meet Environmental regulatory requirements, reduce waste, and recover key materials.
- Manages EPA Hazardous Waste Program for Avient Protective Materials in accordance with all federal, state, and local regulatory requirements, by ensuring RCRA requirements are met, inclusive of manifest reconciliation tracking, annual training requirements, and monthly reporting obligations, etc.
- Manages of EPA Title V air emissions program for Avient Protective Materials in accordance with all federal, state, and local regulatory requirements, inclusive of monthly reporting obligations.
- Manages site compliance to all applicable environmental regulations and permits for Avient Protective Materials. Proactively interprets and stays up-to-date on environmental requirements and changes, including by not limited to: permits for Title V air quality, RCRA hazardous waste, waste water, etc. Designs and manages environmental compliance systems. In order to maintain the site's license to operate (LTO) and to avoid notice of violations/penalties and/or shutdown the plants.
- Manages and provides technical input to environmental projects ranges from $200k - $1.5 million. Collects budgetary costs and oversees environmental budget/expenses for the SHE Department which can exceed $400k annually.
- Owner of Continuous Emissions Monitoring System "CEMS" (regulatory system).
- Prepare local, state and federal permit applications, obtain approvals from local and global management and is the site representative for regulatory authorities to ensure acceptance and timely processing of permit applications.
- Manage implementation, start-up, and qualification of environmental projects required for regulatory reporting (such as CEMS).
- Manages data integrity of regulatory equipment and systems. Troubleshoot and ensure equipment/systems remain in operation and compliance (such as CEMS, Regenerative Thermal Oxidizer etc.) in order to avoid permit non-compliance and notice of violations/civil penalties.
- Authors Avient Protective Materials environmental documents and procedures to meet Avient and regulatory requirements.
- Ensure all staff is trained and knowledgeable of environmental requirements per local, state and federal requirements.
- Stay current with radiation training and maintain that level sufficient to be able to fulfill responsibilities as either RSO (Radiation Safety Officer) or ARSO (Assistant Radiation Safety Officer).
- Comply with relevant laws, regulatory requirements, recipes, SOP's, and other related documents and activities.
- Ensure Company guidelines and policies relating to quality, safety, housekeeping, and cost effectiveness are met.
- Ensure all work is conducted in a safe and effective manner and all applicable procedures and policies are followed. Take action to correct unsafe acts, systems, and procedures.
- Abides by Avient Protective Materials procedures/policies regarding security, inclusive of: employee security agreements; use of non-disclosure agreements with outside parties; control of Avient Protective Materials intellectual property limited to a "need to know" only basis; no unauthorized use of cell phones, cameras, computers or APM property; reporting security threats and incidents; proper control of APM property and keys.
- Comply with all job-related safety and training requirements in a timely manner.
- Maintain annual training requirements on hazardous waste by reviewing DYNPRO SHE DYN 653 and general awareness presentation. Specific job holders will complete more detailed training as well.
- Decision-making authority for Environmental Reporting and Oversight for all large and small capital expenditure projects for Avient Protective Materials.
- Decision-making authority for establishing and oversight of Environmental Compliance Systems for Avient Protective Materials.
- Lead Projects and Manage Project Budgets for Avient Protective Materials.
- Authorized to shut down site operations in case of imminent safety hazard or environmental or hazardous waste release
- Authorized to approve work permits. Employee must maintain necessary refresher training to participate in these activities
- Perform other duties as assigned.

MS in a technical field plus 6 years of relevant experience or BS in a technical field plus 7 years of relevant experience. Proficient in Environmental regulatory requirements. Demonstrated knowledge of permitting process and compliance. Experience with adherence of Environmental regulatory requirements. Experience in an environmental oversight function. Experience in submitting permit applications and negotiating permit requirements. Experience with Environmental reporting to regulatory authorities. Able to analyze data and identify trends. Communication and presentation skills Ability to coordinate team efforts and keep the group informed and organized. Excellent interpersonal and conflict resolution skills.
