The Strategic Communications Division (SCD) within the Department of Human Resources plays a vital role in shaping how Tennessee State Government communicates with its employees, stakeholders, and citizens. Its mission is to ensure clarity, consistency, and timeliness of messaging across all channels. By leading projects such as the Annual Report, newsletters, and web content, the division provides transparency, builds trust, and strengthens the publics understanding of government initiatives. The divisions work enhances the employee experience across state agencies and ensures government communications uphold accessibility, professionalism, and accountability.

How you make a difference in this role:

The Communications and Marketing Specialist position directly supports DOHR and Tennessee State government by ensuring critical information is delivered accurately and effectively to employees and the public. This role contributes to agency goals by: Improving communication efficiency managing content calendars, stakeholder lists, and workflows to keep information timely and coordinated. Enhancing transparency and trust producing reports, newsletters, and digital content that make government actions more understandable to citizens. Elevating standards applying AP Style, plain language, Smart Brevity, and ADA accessibility principles, the position helps set a high bar for professional and inclusive communications within the public sector. Supporting organizational alignment tailoring messages to executives, employees, and external audiences so that communications reflect DOHRs mission, values, and brand.

Job Overview:

This position is a member of the agency's communications division. The Communications & Marketing Specialist is responsible for helping tell the agency's story to customers (state employees), citizens, and potential employees through traditional and digital communication channels (website, intranet, social media, emails, and more).

Key Responsibilities:

1. Assist other department divisions with marketing and communication projects, ad campaigns, and special promotions.

2. Assist with content development for and support of external and internal communications, social media sites, newsletters, and websites.

3. Assist with the management of social media, email, and newsletters. 4. Assist with the development of departmental annual reports.

Minimum Qualifications:

Preferred Education & Experience: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree in communications, marketing, and/or related areas or at least three years of full-time professional experience.
