    Job Description

    We have an opening for an Academic Graduate Appointee. The successful candidate is expected to support a series of internal applications as a full-stack developer. Focus area(s) may include gathering and translating requirements from project manager; developing code based off of requirements, user feedback, and mockups; and maintaining and developing code with the standard development tools such as JIRA and Git. This position is in the IAP (Infrastructure Applications Program) group in the Computing organization at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory.

    In this role you will

    • Gather and analyze requirements and information in support of application development.
    • Perform technical assignments of a basic degree of complexity and provide advanced technical support to development projects.
    • Collaborate with other internal and external groups at LLNL and in some cases at other institutions.
    • Present work through presentations.
    • Contribute to the fulfillment of technical projects and organizational objectives functioning as an effective team member on multi-disciplinary teams.
    • Engage other developers frequently to share relevant knowledge, opinions, and recommendations, working to fulfill deliverables as a team.
    • Perform other duties as assigned.

    Qualifications
    • Must be eligible to access the Laboratory in compliance with Section 3112 of the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA).See the additional information section below for details.
    • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field.
    • Experience with languages such as Java, C++, Python, Oracle, or related.
    • Comprehensive knowledge of computer applications development.
    • Experience with applications development utilizing the Agile method.
    • Ability to effectively manage concurrent technical tasks with competing priorities and meet deadlines that are important to project success.
    • Ability to approach difficult problems with enthusiasm and creativity.
    • Effective interpersonal skills necessary to interact with all levels of personnel and ability to work independently in a multi-disciplinary team environment.
    • Proficient written and verbal communication skills to prepare, present, and document technical information.

    Security Clearance

    None required.However, if your assignment is longer than 179 days cumulatively within a calendar year, you must go through the Personal Identity Verification process. This process includes completing an online background investigation form and receiving approval of the background check. (This process does not apply to foreign nationals.)

    National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA)

    The 2025 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), Section 3112, generally prohibits citizens of China, Russia, Iran and North Korea without dual US citizenship or legal permanent residence from accessing specific non-public areas of national security or nuclear weapons facilities. The restrictions of NDAA Section 3112 apply to this position. To be qualified for this position, Candidates must be eligible to access the Laboratory in compliance with Section 3112.

    Pre-Employment Drug Test

    Ifyou useamedical device, whichpairs with a mobile device,you must still follow the rules concerningthe mobile device in individual sections within Limited Areas. Sensitive Compartmented Information Facilities requireseparate approval. Hearing aids without wireless capabilities or wireless that has been disabled are allowed in Limited Areas, Secure Space and Transit/Buffer Space within buildings.
