Essential Job Duties
The primary purpose of this position is to oversee the operations for Advise NC at NC State. This position is contingent on grant funding.
The Director will provide effective day-to-day management and administration for the Advise NC at NC State; supervise Next Step Advisers; proactively identify and implement methods for publicizing and promoting the activities of the Advise NC at NC State; establish, nurture, and sustain relationships, communication, and collaboration between and among the host institution, partner high schools and districts, and other stakeholders; contribute to best practice sharing with fellow Program Directors in the Advise NC network; and establish and nurture relationships with other postsecondary access and community programs in the area and beyond - community agencies, the business community, alumni, and community members for the purpose of increasing collaboration and fundraising opportunities.
The Director will identify, recruit, hire, train, and evaluate advisers; lead the planning and implementation of on-campus pre- and in-service training; assist each adviser in the development of site-specific strategic plans; assess advisers' effectiveness and encourage professional development; provide effective supervision, coaching, and leadership for advisers; communicate regularly with advisers, visit advisers in their service communities, and implement additional methods for assuring advisors meet the goals of the program.
The Director will work with school partners' site supervisors and leadership to resolve issues that arise; maintain regular contact with high school counselors and administrators in support of the Advise NC at NC State program; consult regularly with partner school principals, counselors, and teachers and district leadership; communicate frequently and effectively with site supervisor at each school.
The Director will oversee the Advise NC at NC State program budget; manage aspects of grant funding as needed (e.g., assure deliverables, complete and submit reports, coordinate site visits, coordinate inquiries from grant agencies); track and manage grant funds to assure their proper use, maintain records, and prepare financial reports as necessary; work collegially with funders and provide reports regarding Advise NC outcomes, progress and activities as requested.
The Director will oversee ongoing data collection and analysis processes and program outcomes reports, evaluate performance of program through visits to high schools on a regular basis and development and oversight of a formal review process with high schools to assure program goals are being met; regularly analyze data collected to gauge the effectiveness and impact of individual advisors and the program as a whole.

Qualifications






Minimum Education and Experience

  • Masters Degree and 3-5 years of experience in the areas of assignment, supervision or experience in a lead-worker capacity; and training.
  • Ideal candidate will demonstrate passion for the Advise NC at NC State mission and have strong skills and experience in management; program structure and process; grant management; documentation; data collection and analysis.
  • They should have excellent organizational and prioritizing skills, communication and presentation skills; ability to generate enthusiasm and understanding with a variety of audiences and partners.

Other Required Qualifications

  • Ideal candidate will have knowledge of and experience with college access, K-12, preparation, and guidance efforts.
  • Ideal candidate will have strong skills and experience in management; program structure and process; grant management; documentation, data collection and analysis.
  • Ideal candidate will have experience with program evaluation, school-based nonprofits, and the ability to manage new professionals.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with program evaluation and school-based nonprofits; excellent analytical and abstract reasoning skills, plus excellent organizational skills.
  • Supervisory experience strongly preferred; mature and proactive; persistent; diplomatic problem-solver; exceptional written, oral, and interpersonal skills.
