Essential Job Duties |
Join NC State University's
Landscape Maintenance and Operations team as a
Turf Health Technician II and take the lead in keeping our campus grounds thriving and efficient. In this role, you'll be responsible for the
installation, maintenance, and repair of over 60 advanced irrigation systems across campus. You'll also support the overall health of turf and plant life by identifying diseases and applying proper treatments. This position offers the opportunity to combine technical expertise with meaningful, hands-on work in a collaborative and supportive environment.

Key responsibilities and duties include but are not limited to:
- Lead the installation, maintenance, and repair of irrigation systems, including pumps, valves, controllers, and underground piping
- Diagnose and resolve electrical and plumbing issues, including 2-wire and low-voltage systems
- Retrofit existing systems to accommodate new landscape designs or construction
- Program and monitor irrigation controllers; recommend improvements for system efficiency
- Identify turf and plant diseases and determine appropriate treatments to support landscape health
- Safely apply fertilizers and pesticides using calibrated tank sprayers and spreaders
- Operate and maintain landscape equipment such as trenchers, skid loaders, and sprayers
- Maintain detailed records of maintenance activities, repairs, and treatment applications
- Mentor and guide other irrigation crew members as needed
- Follow all safety protocols and support emergency operations when required
This position is open for current, permanent NC State Employees only.

Other Responsibilities |
- Position serves in a critical role and is essential to the operations of the University. May be required to work during adverse weather conditions and work even if the University closes. Aid in snow removal as directed by supervisors.
- This position must be able to perform work both individually and as a team member

Qualifications
Minimum Experience/Education |
High school diploma or equivalency; or demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work. Some positions may require special licenses or certification(s).
Optional Guidelines: Experience in the trade(s) areas related to the area of assignment may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.

Other Required Qualifications |
- Experience in troubleshooting and repairing irrigation systems using wire locators and OHM meters
- Ability to effectively convey information verbally and understand written and verbal instructions
- Ability to lift up to 30 pounds frequently and 60 pounds occasionally, with or without reasonable accommodations

Preferred Qualifications |
- Experience in residential and commercial landscape irrigation installation and repair
- Strong knowledge of irrigation system installation, maintenance, and repair
- Ability to diagnose issues with pumps, clocks, valves, and low-voltage wiring (traditional and two-wire systems)
- Familiarity with turf maintenance, plant care, and light equipment upkeep
- Certified Irrigation Contractors License preferred
