Cleveland-Cliffs Inc. is seeking an Associate Database Administrator (DBA) to join our technology team. The ideal candidate has a foundational knowledge of database management and is eager to develop their skills supporting our hybrid database environment. This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated, detail-oriented professional to begin a career in database administration. Summary of Responsibilities
- Monitor database performance using standard tools and identify opportunities for optimization.
- Perform routine database maintenance tasks, including backups, restoration, and data migration.
- Support application development teams by assisting with database queries, schema changes, and deployments.
- Provide support for Cleveland Cliffs database environment under the guidance of senior DBAs.
- Maintain and update documentation for database configurations, procedures, and best practices.
- Provide support for other team members as required.
- Participate in a 24/7 on-call rotation to address mission-critical database issues as needed.
- Troubleshoot database related issues.
- Assist in user management, including creating accounts, assigning permissions, and ensuring data security.
- Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Information Systems, Computer Science or an equivalent degree/year of experience.
- Familiarity with foundational database concepts (e.g., data modeling, database design, query optimization).
- Basic understanding of Oracle database architecture and management tools.
- Basic understanding of Microsoft SQL Server administration and T-SQL.
- Working knowledge of the Linux operating system.
- Experience with Structured Query Language (SQL).
- Problem solving - some experience in a professional environment demonstrating the ability to work effectively under pressure and meet deadlines.
- Effectively able to diagnose/troubleshoot on various technologies.
- Ability to communicate with and understand the needs of non-technical constituents, both internal and external.
- Ability to read and interpret technical documents and procedure manuals as well as excellent documentation skills are required..
- Strong interpersonal skills, oral communication skills, and proven analytical and creative problem-solving abilities.
- Experience working in a team-oriented and collaborative environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Basic understanding of IBMs DB2 administration and management tools.
- Manufacturing industry experience is preferred; mining or steel experience is a plus.
- Basic experience with scripting languages (e.g., Bash, Python, PowerShell).
- Knowledge of backup and recovery strategies (e.g., RMAN for Oracle, native SQL Server backups).
