Position Summary:

We are seeking an Associate Director of R&D Finance who will be responsible for financial planning and reporting processes, including annual budgets and interim forecasts, financial reporting, long range planning and long-term financial models for the fast-growing R&D and Medical Affairs teams.As a core member of the R&D and Medical Affairs leadership team, you will be at the forefront of providing valuable financial and strategic insight to help the business in making well-informed decisions and to drive optimal use of resources.

In addition to having primary oversight of all financial planning and reporting, you will also support and lead process improvements and optimization of our business practices for today, as well as ensure scalability for future growth. This role will be responsible for building scalable financial infrastructure and enhancing existing complex financial models and processes to improve transparency, accuracy, and efficiency in forecasting and managing clinical trial spend. This role will provide leadership and guidance for two direct reports, fostering professional development while ensuring high-quality financial analysis, reporting, and collaboration in support of R&D & Medical Affairs objectives. You will partner with R&D & Medical Affairs leadership to develop and deliver portfolio-level analytics on clinical development spend, providing insights into resource allocation, investment prioritization, and long-range planning. This is an opportunity to make a significant imprint on the evolution of our current processes, policies, and systems. As such, this role requires ambition, creativity, and ingenuity.

Preferred job location: Waltham, MA. Remote candidates will be considered on a case-by-case basis or relocation may be provided.

Key Responsibilities Include:



  • Responsible for supporting and serving as the strategic and operational FP&A business partner for the R&D & Medical Affairs organization.
  • Develop, plan, and coordinate budgets/forecasts and provide regular actual to budget/forecast reporting and variance analyses to the R&D & Medical Affairs organization to enable decision making and alignment to achieving company objectives.
  • Produce robust, proactive financial analyses for business partners including but not limited to budget/forecast to actuals tracking and monthly reporting.
  • As the lead FP&A Partner, facilitate the financial long-range and annual planning process for R&D & Medical Affairs.
  • Create strong partnership with the Clinical team (Clinical Trial Managers, Clin Ops, Clinical Vendor Management, etc) to be fully integrated into the Study budgets right from study inception to study completion.
  • Improve existing processes and build new analytical frameworks and forward-looking clinical models to enable quality decision-making.
  • Manage the development of multi-year clinical trial cost forecasting models and scenario analyses to support strategic decision-making Provide business support to the clinical teams to help create transparency around key parameters in critical business areas including enrollment rates, clinical accruals, cost per patient, etc.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop 1-2 direct reports while driving high-quality financial analysis, reporting, and cross-functional collaboration to support R&D & Medical Affairs.


Education, Registration & Certification:



  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance with a minimum of 7 years of experience in areas of accounting and financial analysis/planning.
  • MBA or CPA preferred.


Experience:



  • Must have a minimum of five years' FP&A experience at a publicly traded company in life science industry with experience in the biopharmaceutical industry and R&D.
  • Knowledge of US GAAP and SOX internal control principles for a public company.
  • Experience with tier 1 ERP systems and financial planning tools (SAP, Oracle, or Netsuite / Hyperion, Adaptive Planning, or Anaplan).
  • Strong facilitation, communication and presentation skills with an ability to interface with all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and partner successfully with non-Finance personnel while remaining a strong representative of/for the Finance team.
  • Ability to work in team environment and willing to assist other team members to achieve team goals and objectives.
  • Comfort challenging the status quo, driving change, and managing in a fast-paced, dynamic work environment.
  • Comfort handling parallel tasks and large datasets and delivering within fast-paced deadlines.
  • Prior experience managing direct reports is preferred.


Physical Demands and Work Environment:

This is largely a sedentary role; however, some filing is required. This would require the ability to lift files, open filing cabinets and bend or stand on a stool as necessary. This job operates in a professional office environment and routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.

Travel Requirements:



  • Up to 20% travel expected
