Overview

Beyond New Horizons, LLC (BNH) has an exciting opportunity for an Engineering Technical Specialist supporting the Test Operations and Sustainment contract, at Arnold Engineering Development Complex at Arnold AFB, TN. This Tech Spec will be working as a member of an integrated team responsible for maintaining and sustaining the United States Air Force Test Operations and Sustainment efforts.

Job Summary

This position is vital to the oversight and planning of technical work within one of the test areas. The role will consist of supporting test operations, plant operations, and system engineers in the daily activities of maintaining critical plant equipment systems, ordering of material in support of maintaining this equipment, and fulfilling other duties required in support of test and sustainment activities.

Job Duties:

Maintenance

    Identify gaps between new test requirements and existing systems capabilities
  • Provide labor / material inputs to cost estimates for maintenance and capital improvement projects.
  • Support scheduling meetings and planning, including making inputs on required maintenance outages
  • Support procurement activities - ordering of stock and non-stock hardware and supplies needed to execute work orders; assist planner / schedulers are required
  • Perform field installation of new and modified systems / components with the oversight of engineers.
  • Write detailed work order tasks with attached drawings, permits, work instructions, safety cautions, etc.; ensuring hardware and materials are ordered and staged on time (or that a planner is taking care of material staging); and following the work progress in the field for facility reconfigurations, systems installations / modifications, and test article installations
  • Write and / or revise operational and preventive maintenance procedures (WIs) and other system documentation as required
  • Develop and/or update technical drawings based on design concepts
  • Ensure that systems are ready for operations
  • Review and understand the Baseline Hazard Analyses (BHAs) and Test Hazard Analyses (THAs), particularly verifications of mitigation measures applicable to the particular test or operations
  • Ensure critical spares are identified and staged to meet system availability/downtime requirements.
  • Troubleshoot and repair systems when failures occur, with engineer oversight
  • Coordinate work with the appropriate area superintendent, craft supervisor, and / or work planner.
  • Provide technical leadership to the craft workforce in execution of work orders and operational / maintenance procedures (WIs), Lock-Out / Tag-Out (LOTO), critical lifts, etc
  • Provide technical support to environmental compliance (emissions, spills, air stack permit logs, etc.)
* It is a condition of employment to wear company issued PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) in accordance with supervisory direction and company policy.
  • Perform other related duties as required.

Basic Qualifications:

  • AS degree in an engineering technology discipline from an accredited college or university plus a minimum of 8 years' engineering or related technical experience
  • Must be able to maintain a Department of Defense Secret level security clearance and access to the AEDC local area network
  • Due to Air Force Security requirements, U.S. Citizenship is required for employment at AEDC

Preferred Qualifications

  • Basic technical knowledge of mechanical engineering systems, applications of engineering methods and construction methods and materials, and application of computer aided engineering (CAE)/computer aided design (CAD) tools to engineering problems.
  • Experience in engineering design, layout, drawings, industrial processes control and related disciplines
  • Demonstrated experience successfully building relationships with team across engineering & craft workforce
  • Ability to perform in a dynamic working environment with flexibility to meet mission demands
  • Strong organizational skills to track and facilitate progress on projects
  • Demonstrated proactiveness and initiative to drive to results
  • Exhibits strong level of technical curiosity and desire to seek understanding and interface with other engineering disciplines
  • Strong communication skills (including verbal and written)
  • Participates in and fosters a work environment that is based upon openness, trust, communication, teamwork, empowerment, innovation, and satisfaction
  • Active Department of Defense Secret Security Clearance
