Primary Purpose of the Organization:
The Department of Biological and Forensic Sciences is an academic unit within the Lloyd College of Health, Science, and Technology, seeking to serve a diverse student body, including military and international students, through effective teaching, active scholarship, and service-learning activities. The Department of Biological and Forensic Sciences offers a Bachelor of Science in Biology with concentrations in pre-health, organismal biology, or molecular biology/biotechnology as well as a Bachelor of Science in Forensic Sciences. The Department offers a minor program in Biology and Biotechnology. The Department has more than four hundred enrolled undergraduate students and seventeen (17) tenured, tenure-track, or lecturer faculty members.

The Department of Biological and Forensic Science mission is to provide high quality, student-centered academic programs, and courses in the sciences at the undergraduate level. Our diverse faculty prepares students through education, research, and outreach programs to become critical thinkers. Primary Purpose of the Position:
The purpose of the position is to assist and supervise experiments conducted at two field sites and labs located at FSU. The position is necessary to support the recently awarded research grant by NC Innovations, which aims to test the efficacy and safety of a novel pesticide developed at FSU. The position requires hands-on experience with poultry and the ability to analyze pesticide residues, determining safety and efficacy/metabolism, in commercial poultry environments.
Minimum Education And Experience Requirements:
Ph.D. in Animal Science, Poultry Science, Veterinary Science, Toxicology, Analytical Chemistry, or a related discipline.
Knowledge, Skills And Abilities:

  • Knowledge of poultry behavior, welfare, or nutrition research, hands-on experience in poultry science, specifically handling and sampling of live poultry (broilers, layers, and breeders).
  • Strong background in animal handling, poultry husbandry, and analytical chemistry techniques such as High-Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC).
  • Proficiency in HPLC operation, method development, and quantification of pesticide residues and metabolites. Strong data analysis and scientific writing/oral skills

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated experience handling and sampling live poultry (e.g., broilers, layers, breeders).
  • Proficiency in HPLC operation, method development, and pesticide/metabolite quantification.
  • Strong data analysis and scientific writing skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in field and lab environments.
  • Familiarity with EPA or USDA residue study protocols and required toxicity tests.
  • Knowledge of poultry behavior, welfare, or nutrition research.
  • Previous experience/publications involving HPLC pesticide residue analysis or avian models.
