As Associate Director, Financial Storytelling, Capital Process and CBA lead, you will be responsible for supporting the overall strategy, planning, and narrative for the CXDP capitalization and enterprise and cross-BU product approval process. In this role you will collaborate closely with colleague teams in Consumer Experience and Digital Product, Optum.com, and other business units and finance teams. As a strategic and analytical leader with strong financial and storytelling acumen, you will be a key partner to product, design, experience and engineering leadership translating innovation strategies and our product roadmap into narratives that connect financial performance to customer impact, business value and strategic outcomes to help ensure the right enterprise priorities and resourcing decisions are made in support of our consumer focus.

This position follows a hybrid schedule with four in-office days per week.

Primary Responsibilities:



  • Capitalization approach and capital planning:

    • Lead development, coordination and implementation of CXDP capitalization strategy. This includes managing capitalization plan, budget and tracking to ensure the accurate capitalization of the team against strategic priorities and product roadmap
    • Develop and manage long-term capitalization plan in alignment w/ strategic goals and operational needs
    • Coordinate across CXDP and w/ business partners to prioritize resources and project based on strategic objectives, risk and funding availability
    • Conduct financial modeling and scenario planning to support capital investment decisions
    • Lead annual and quarterly capitalization planning for the digital portfolio in close partnership w/ Finance
    • Manage governance processes for digital investments through the Optum PAB, ensuring alignment with corporate thresholds and ROI expectations
    • Track actuals and support forecasting and reforecasting, surfacing key variances to support decision-making


  • Financial storytelling and strategic framing: Develop clear, compelling narratives that connect digital product investments to business outcomes (e.g. revenue growth, customer engagement, retention, cost-efficiency)

    • Partner w/ product teams to frame initiatives in financial terms aligned w/ enterprise strategy
    • Create executive-ready presentations and business cases to support roadmap prioritization, capitalization and capital requests


  • Cost-Benefit Analysis (CBA) & financial modeling:

    • Build common CBA template to help ensure CBA rigor for use as part of an enterprise-wide and cross-BU product development process (to compliment U-Accelerate) and support the Optum PAB, finance and leadership to help consistently evaluate and compare potential opportunities and financial value, as well as value to the consumer, experience impact, and evaluate trade-offs
    • Support CXDA product and experience teams build impactful and successful CBAs, serving as a liaison with CXDP and BU finance teams for inputs and coordination
    • Financial analyst support for consumer value creation measurement and reporting
    • Collaborate with analytical teams to acquire data and develop robust, data-driven value estimates


  • Product Governance:
  • Leads Optum PAB Governance Process: Ensures seamless execution of bi-weekly Optum PAB meetings, with key topics prepared in advance for cross-business leader discussions. Facilitates annual roadmap planning, prioritization, and voting across business units, supporting a strong consumer led roadmap. Communicates key decisions reached by the Optum PAB back down to the teams
  • Facilitates Monthly Digital Close: Orchestrates a cross-UHG forum that unites Optum and UHC leaders to review key performance metrics and critical initiatives. Ensures a robust and relevant agenda is presented each month. Works across UHG leader teams to ensure content is prepped in a timely fashion

Required Qualifications:



  • 5+ years of experience in capital planning, healthcare or product accounting
  • 5+ years of experience working with CBA and value creation
  • 5+ years of experience with data visualization and storytelling and documentation
  • 5+ years of experience influencing and collaborating with stakeholders in a highly matrixed organization

  • Ability to foster internal relationships, work effectively within cross-functional teams, and lead through ambiguity
  • Solid organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to lead multiple projects and thrive in a dynamic environment
  • Ability to remain composed and balance high pressure situations to successfully operate in a real-time, fast-paced environment
  • Excellent writing and editing skills, and adept at PowerPoint for visual storytelling
  • Makes space to listen, learn, and amplify diverse perspectives and experiences



Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, we offer benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). No matter where or when you begin a career with us, you'll find a far-reaching choice of benefits and incentives. The salary for this role will range from $110,200 to $188,800 annually based on full-time employment. We comply with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
