The compensation offered to the candidate selected for the position will depend on several factors, including the candidate's educational background, skills and professional experience.

Job Overview:

Manager is a licensed professional who, under the direction of department Director, coordinates available resources to efficiently and effectively provide professional clinical care of a quality consistent with the Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Standards of care to the patients assigned to his/her unit. The Assistant Director of Patient Care demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to make decisions regarding the provision of appropriate care for the unit's patient population.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Master's or Doctoral degree in the Behavioral Health (Psychology, Social Work or Counseling) from an accredited college or university.

Preferred:

  • Minimum of two years of clinical experience is a mental health setting.
  • Supervisory experience preferred.
  • Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills, provide quality internal and external customer service skills, and community outreach experience to foster referral development.
  • Preferred qualifications include proficiency utilizing productivity software (word processing, spreadsheets, presentations) and electronic medical record systems.
  • Billing experience within an outpatient setting.
  • Case Management experience within an outpatient setting.

Certifications and Licenses Required:

  • NJ State licensure, LCSW, LPC, PhD or PsyD is required.

Essential Functions:

Management of Patient Care Delivery

  • Maintains clinical expertise as demonstrated by:
  • Providing care that is safe, effective and consistent with Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Standards of Patient Care
  • Applying knowledge of growth and development over the life span.
  • Applying the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served on his or her assigned unit.
  • Assessing data reflective of each patient's status and interpreting information needed in order to identify each patient's age requirements relative to his or her age specific health care needs.
  • Sharing knowledge both formally and informally.
  • Incorporating current research findings into clinical practice.
  • Providing leadership in the delivery of patient care for the unit as demonstrated by:
  • Making assignments which consider patient needs and staff competencies.
  • Assisting staff in establishing priorities for patient care needs.
  • Serving as a resource for interpretation of regulatory requirements.
  • Implementation of policies and procedures of the department.
  • Promoting effective resource utilization related to clinical practice.
  • Using effective communication strategies with patients, families, physicians, staff members and professionals to achieve desirable or acceptable patient outcomes.
  • Participates in the development of performance improvement projects including: design, performance measurement analysis and improvement.
  • Provides open lines of communication for reporting medical errors and "near misses" using RWJUH organizational tools and resources.

Unit Management

  • Plans staffing in accordance with established standards as demonstrated by:
  • Completing and posting schedules according to policy and procedure.
  • Completing schedules in a manner that balances personal requests and unit needs.
  • Monitoring and evaluating the standards of care for the unit.
  • Ensuring accurate and timely completion of mechanisms used for payroll purposes.
  • Participating in quality and cost initiatives as demonstrated by:
  • Assisting Director with the management of the daily operational budget (salary and non-salary).
  • Demonstrates improvement in selected safety/quality indicators over time.
  • Communicates and documents progress in selected safety/quality initiatives to employees during regular staff meetings and as needed

Development/Management of Personnel

  • Facilitates the safe and effective functioning of the unit as demonstrated by:
  • Interviewing and hiring licensed personnel in collaboration with Director.
  • Facilitates the orientation process for new employees as demonstrated by:
  • Making assignments that maintain preceptor-orientee relationship.
  • Working the preceptor-orientee to solve any problems.
  • Ensuring that orientees complete the unit-based orientation within an appropriate individualized time frame.
  • Contributes to the professional growth and development of staff by:
  • Continuously assessing patient care to evaluate staff knowledge and patterns of performance.
  • Counseling staff on identified areas for improvement.
  • Evaluating the staff performance as demonstrated by the completion of the performance evaluation in a timely manner
  • Counseling and implementing appropriate disciplinary action.
  • Planning/coordinating unit-based education programs as identified by unit needs.
  • Considers staff participation in safety/quality initiatives when completing employee performance appraisals.

Fostering Interdisciplinary Collaborative Relationship

  • Support and maintain collaborative relationships with all disciplines that impact patient care on the unit.
  • Foster an atmosphere of positive communication on the unit.
  • Act as a role model in customer relations.
  • Participates in service and hospital-wide committees as assigned.

Professional Development

  • Attends formal educational seminars/classes to enhance knowledge on both clinical and administrative issues.
  • Participates in the orientation program for new leaders.
  • Maintains membership in a professional organization.

Clinical Responsibilities

  • Provide clinical and administrative support to team members, including coaching and consultation, and assist Director with management of delegated tasks and projects.
  • Conduct billing reconciliation and chart audits.
  • Knowledge and ability to function as a team member, compile, organize and document clinical assessments, intervention techniques, treatment and discharge planning.
  • Provides individual, group and family therapy.
  • Possess excellent clinical assessment, diagnosis, risk assessment and crisis evaluation skills.
  • Ability to implement crisis intervention, ongoing treatment, evaluation of clinical progress and determination of future course of treatment.
  • Regularly participates in treatment team meetings and attends rounds.
  • Provides coverage for team members as needed.
  • Ensures compliance with Department of Health and Joint Commission guidelines.
  • Adheres to all ethical, legal and confidentiality guidelines for delivery of treatment services.
  • Enhances professional competence by regularly attending continuing education programs.

Documentation

  • Demonstrated excellence in maintaining clinical documentation within organizational and regulatory requirement timelines.
    • Psychosocial assessments, group, individual and family sessions
    • Treatment plans, progress notes, telephone contacts, and discharge summaries
    • Submits billing charges in a timely manner.
