Summary: The Central Operations Area Specialist is responsible for processing all critical functions assigned to Central Operations. Having a diverse knowledge base allows the Central Operations Area Specialist to serve as back up in all areas of operations within the department, ensuring all business needs can be met and ultimately contributing to an overall positive internal and external member experience.
Profile:
  • Reviews, researches, processes disputes, reconciling outages, fraud and balances the digital money transfer program settlement.
  • Orders and maintains appropriate levels of currency and coin in the appropriate vendor vaults to fulfill and replenish the branch network and ATM/ILT fleet as needed.
  • Places currency and coin delivery/replenishment orders to the appropriate vendor vault for the branch network and the ATM fleet within appropriate timeframes.
  • Ensures cash management vendors are properly maintaining and replenishing ATM and ILT equipment. Coordinates with vendor for set up, deployment, and servicing of the branch network and ATM fleet. Orders and maintains levels for related supplies.
  • Adheres, maintains and balances vendor cash vault limits and associated general ledgers.
  • Processes, researches, updates and maintains Payroll Allocations and employer payroll groups. Replies to related inquires.
  • Prepares and executes assigned General Ledgers, clears outstanding items related to the balancing of General Ledgers, and prepares and assists with daily and month-end reconcilements of related General Ledger accounts.
  • Supports/backs up the processing of rejected items (NSF, Stop Payments) and file load errors for ACH, Check Inclearings, mail processing using the courtesy pay program, established member relationship guidelines and appropriate governing regulations as well as credit union policies and procedures.
  • Supports/backs up the central depository of all organizational checks received and reviews and approves check images captured through multiple channel, including the posting, research, approval, review and resolves returned checks, imaged captured checks, mail and originations such as pre authorized share and loan transactions, accounts payable, vendor originations, and responds to related inquiries.
  • Supports/backs up the process of creating, balancing and the upload of return files for rejected items to the appropriate endpoint.
  • Supports/backs up the process of research, adjusting and resolves Central Operations transactions that are disputed, posted in error, requires an adjustment, research and related transaction inquires.
  • Supports/backs up the processes of Death Notifications received from in-house, the Social Security Administration, reclamation, or any other source by using NACHA rules and the US Treasury Green Book regulations.
  • Supports/backs up the maintenance of pre authorizations, official checks and all stop payments. Supports/backs up the processes for the daily settlement entries for all transmitted/upload files, cash orders and the adjustments/disputes/corrections.
  • Supports/backs up the input, verification, review, approval and posting of domestic and international wire transfers accurately and within appropriate timeframes
  • Supports/backs up the monitoring and maintaining of the appropriate Federal Reserve bank and international wire account balances
  • Identifies and escalates non routine transactions and exceptions to minimize and eliminate potential fraud situations. Troubleshoots issues related to applications used as needed.
  • Effectively communicates all auditing issues, errors, and/or discrepancies with Management, Compliance, and related Branch or Department.
  • Stays current and ensures compliance with applicable laws, regulations and governing rules as well as with credit union's policies and procedures
  • Participates in Disaster Recovery and Contingency testing as required
  • Determines methods and procedures on new assignments and may coordinate activities of other personnel

Skills:
  • Sound knowledge of all critical functions processed through The Central Operations Department. Sound understanding of systems and applications used for processing Central Operations transactions.
  • Familiar with basic accounting principles as well as the payment industry.
  • Sound understanding of systems and applications used for Central Operations tasks, and General Ledger functions.
  • Quick learner to acquire and keep up-to-date with applicable NACHA rules, Federal Reserve Bank operational circulars, US Treasury Green Book regulations, regulations governing Plastic Cards and Checks.
  • Strong understanding of credit union products and services.
  • Excellent member service skills to include answering the phone and dealing with internal and external members in a polite and courteous manner.
  • Strong organizational skills, the ability to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment, and accurately complete multiple tasks within required timeframes with minimal supervision.
  • Effective professional verbal and written communications skills.
  • Proficient in MS Office products (Word, Excel and Outlook).
  • Strong math skills, detail-oriented, accurate data entry skills and problem solving skills.

  • Associate Central Operations Area Specialist:
    • Reports directly to Supervisor/Manager, Central Operations.
    • This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
    • HS Diploma or equivalent.
    • Minimum 1 year related work experience
  • Central Operations Area Specialist:
    • Reports directly to Supervisor/Manager, Central Operations.
    • This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
    • HS Diploma or equivalent.
    • Minimum 2 years related work experience.
Working Conditions: Work is generally performed within an office environment, with standard office equipment available and usually sedentary in nature.
Understands the requirements of the Bank Secrecy Act and ensures compliance through monitoring and reporting of member activity as appropriate.
Compensation:Base salary starting range is commensurate with experience:
  • Associate Central Operations Area Specialist: Grade 9: $22.80/hour - $28.17/hour
  • Central Operations Area Specialist: Grade 10: $24.82/hour - $30.66/hour
