What to Expect
Tesla is seeking a highly energetic and experienced QC Lab Manager to lead a team of lab technicians at the newly built cathode production facility in Gigafactory Texas, Austin. In this role, the manager will oversee all laboratory operations, including the organization of daily tasks, equipment calibration, troubleshooting, analytical testing prioritization, and data reporting. With exceptional leadership and interpersonal skills, the manager will assign tasks, schedule training, monitor progress, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to address complex analytical challenges. A proven track record in driving improvements within fast-paced manufacturing environments will be key to setting a high standard for the team and ensuring optimal performance from each lab member.

What You'll Do
  • Assign responsibilities to manage testing, inspection, and release of materials from the QC lab
  • Provide coaching and training to technicians on lab safety and operations
  • Lead 5S and efficiency improvement initiatives in the lab
  • Drive test method development, validation, and optimization to ensure accurate and precise data reporting
  • Provide regular reports and updates to the quality team and management on quality issues, lab achievements, and challenges
  • Coordinate with quality engineers, production, prototype, and pilot labs for alignment on priority testing, test methods, and tech transfer

What You'll Bring
  • Degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a relevant scientific field, or equivalent experience
  • Minimum of 5 years of leadership experience in a manufacturing quality control environment with a team of 10 or more
  • Hands-on experience with chemical characterization and operation/troubleshooting of relevant equipment (ICP-OES, XRD, XRF, SEM, PSA, BET, etc.)
  • Knowledge of ISO 9001, ISO 17025, or IATF 16949 standards is a plus
  • Proficiency in concepts such as SPC, process capability, PFMEA, control plans, LIMS, Six Sigma, RCA, and Gage R&R
  • Command of the English language, both written and verbal

Essential Physical Demands:

  • Stand for long periods, lift up to 50lbs., and work in a fast-paced, noisy environment
  • Wear personal protective equipment (PPE) and work in varying temperatures and environments
  • Ability to climb, bend, stoop, and kneel as needed
  • Ability to wear PAPR and work extended hours inside the lab
