Job Summary

The Graduate Medical Education (GME) Psychologist provides counseling services, crisis intervention, consultation, and resource identification and referral for employees, residents, fellows, and their family members. Consults with supervisors, managers and program directors regarding employee, resident and fellow well-being and/or mental health concerns. Develops and delivers psychoeducational/informational programming on topics relevant to employees and physicians in training, including stress management, wellness, resilience, mindfulness, balancing work and life, team building, and effective communication. Coordinates and collaborates with University and community resources, with an emphasis on problem prevention and/or early resolution. Serves as a mental health expert/consultant on various committees.

Minimum Qualifications - For full consideration, applicants are encouraged to upload license and/or certification if required of the position

  • Current, valid licensed Psychologist with the California Board of Psychology
  • PhD or PsyD in clinical or counseling psychology
  • 3 years experience conducting evidence-based assessment, crisis intervention, and short-term counseling with adults.
  • 3 years experience developing and delivering workshops.
  • Knowledge of ACGME requirements regarding resident and fellow training.
  • Ability to work with diverse populations of faculty, staff, residents, and fellows.
  • Skills in conducting clinical and needs assessment in order to identify significant environmental, interpersonal, personal and departmental stressors.
  • Skills to articulate a treatment & intervention plan that will lead to problem resolution, stress reduction, increased productivity, and improved well-being.
  • Ability to establish professional work relationships with campus partners and stakeholders.
  • Knowledge and ability to use the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-V) to establish accurate diagnostic impressions, formulate treatment plans, and make appropriate referrals.
  • Knowledge of basic research protocols and basic statistics.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills; public speaking skills.
  • Knowledge of ethical, legal, and University standards and regulations.
  • Knowledge of mandated reporting responsibilities/requirements (i.e., child and/or elder abuse reporting).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working in an EAP.
  • Experience working in an academic medical setting.

Work Environment

UC Davis is a smoke and tobacco free campus effective January 1, 2014. Smoking, the use of smokeless tobacco products, and the use of unregulated nicotine products (e-cigarettes) will be strictly prohibited on any UC Davis owned or leased property, indoors and outdoors, including parking lots and residential space.

This is a hybrid position and weekly on-site presence is required. Schedule is Monday, Tuesday, Thursday 10-7pm and Wednesday, Friday 8-5pm. On rare occasions, may need to respond to after-hours emergencies.
