Overview This position is located in our Jersey City, NJ office and will require a 3-day on site, 2 days remote schedule. The Investment Accounting Director is an integral member of the Finance organization that supports the Vice President of Investment Accounting and is primarily responsible for (1) the monthly U.S. and local GAAP/Statutory financial close for domestic and international entities; (2) U.S. GAAP footnote disclosures and other external reporting, including quarterly and annual U.S. Statutory reporting; and (3) overseeing the accounting for key estimates and maintaining related control processes. The role requires fluency in Clearwater Analytics and Oracle ERP, and the ability to translate requirements between the two systems. The Investment Accounting Director is technically proficient in GAAP and STAT Investment Accounting guidelines and has been exposed to (1) ASC Topics 320 through 326; (2) broad topics, including foreign currency matters, equity method accounting and consolidations, and fair value measurements; and (3) has a working knowledge of/ability to develop a working knowledge of various international GAAPs, including UK GAAP, Irish GAAP and IFRS. The salary range for this role is $104,000 - 165,000 annually. This range is only applicable for jobs to be performed in Jersey City, NJ. Base pay offered may vary depending on, but not limited to education, experience, skills, geographic location, travel requirements, sales or revenue-based metrics. This range may be modified in the future. Responsibilities * Oversees and coordinates all daily accounting operations and monthly financial closes for the domestic and international entities' investment portfolios for U.S. GAAP, U.S. Statutory and local accounting bases, including coordination of the quarterly close calendar. * Is a primary point of contact for questions and issue resolution and works closely with domestic and international colleagues on ad hoc reporting requests to satisfy local regulatory requirements * Able to identify process pain points and develop process enhancements with an eye toward eliminating manual work and redundancy and adding value. To this end, work closely with Clearwater Analytics to diagnose and resolve any technical issues. * Implements and continues to enhance processes for recording and reconciling investment accounting journal entries and balances, which includes continuous improvement of excel processes, coordinating with the ERP/HFM teams, opening accounts and maintaining the investment accounting COA, opening/tracking/resolving ERP tickets and change management requests, and development of a Consolidated US GAAP ledger to Clearwater reconciliation. * Works closely with Clearwater Analytics to address and resolve any issues/action items identified by the team. * Manages the U.S. GAAP and U.S. Statutory accounting for all alternative investments and works with VP of Investment Accounting to explore other options/vendors for systematically accounting for OIA investments. * Oversees completion of the investments section for the annual AM Best Survey. * Oversee the performance of Accountant II. * Performance of ad hoc requests where necessary Qualifications * 10+ years of technical insurance accounting experience; experience in a Financial Reporting role, including hands-on experience in consolidations, preferred (at least 2 years of public experience a plus) * Bachelor's degree in accounting required; CPA preferred but not required * Strong Investment Accounting background (GAAP & STAT); knowledge of accounting for equity method investments/ OIA is preferred * Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP and Statutory and understanding of financial statements * Hands on experience with Oracle FCCS & Smartview * Hands-on experience with STAT Regulatory reporting using Sovos (WINGS) * Proficiency in MS Office (knowledge of Access a plus) * Highly organized with the ability to effectively manage multiple tasks and changing priorities in a very fast-paced, challenging environment * Attention to detail and accuracy is a must * Outstanding written and oral communication skills * Self-starter capable of working independently, as well as working effectively as part of a team What We Offer AmTrust Financial Services offers a competitive compensation package and excellent career advancement opportunities.
