Software Developer Job Summary B&A is seeking an experienced Software Developer to design, develop, and sustain subsystem and software components supporting U.S. Navy programs. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience working with structured data formats, database queries, and solutions delivered across DoD infrastructures. This role requires a strong background in developing software solutions that integrate with military standards and training data formats. Responsibilities
- Design, develop, test, and sustain subsystem and software components in compliance with DoD and U.S. Navy standards.
- Create and maintain structured data transformations from unstructured sources using SGML, XML, or other standards-based formats.
- Develop and support solutions distributed to U.S. Navy users in both ashore and afloat environments.
- Implement and integrate solutions incorporating SCORM, xAPI, S1000D, or other IETM/military training standards.
- Develop, maintain, and optimize database queries to support structured data management and retrieval.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure software solutions meet mission requirements, security standards, and interoperability expectations.
- Provide technical support, troubleshooting, and enhancements for deployed systems.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field. Equivalent professional experience may be considered in lieu of degree.
Required Skills
- Minimum 7 years of professional experience in software development, including 7 years within the last 10 years developing and sustaining subsystem and software components.
- At least 6 years of experience supporting SGML, XML, or developing database queries, or transforming unstructured data into standards-based structured data formats.
- At least 3 years of experience developing solutions distributed to U.S. Navy ashore and afloat users through DoD infrastructure.
- At least 2 years of experience developing solutions that incorporate or integrate with SCORM, xAPI, S1000D, or other military training/IETM formatted data.
- Strong proficiency in programming languages such as Java, C++, or C#.
- Hands-on experience with relational databases (e.g., Oracle, SQL Server, or PostgreSQL).
- Experience working within DoD systems engineering processes and familiarity with associated security and compliance requirements.
Desired Skills
- Experience with DoD cybersecurity frameworks (RMF, STIGs, etc.).
- Knowledge of web services, APIs, and distributed system architectures.
- Familiarity with containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes) for software deployment.
- Prior experience supporting integrated logistics support (ILS) systems or technical documentation platforms.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work in a collaborative, multi-disciplinary team environment.
