Part time - 12 hours - Nights
The Monitor Technician observes cardiac and video monitors and reports changes to the nurse caring for the patient and the Critical Care Unit nurse.
This position is part of the 1199SEIU Bargaining Unit at Cooley Dickinson Hospital.
This position reports to the Nurse Manager, Telemetry and Critical Care and operates within established organizational and departmental policies and procedures.

Essential Functions
-Successfully pass a CDH-approved dysrhythmia course.
-Receive report on all patients to be monitored.
-Observe cardiac and video monitors on patients.
-Enter patient data in the dysrhythmia computer as appropriate.
-Individualize alarms and ensure alarms are active.
-Recognize dysrhythmias and obtain documentary strip.
-Label EKG strip with the rhythm, and PR, QRS, and QT intervals and posts on admission and on each shift.
-Record pulse oximetry as appropriate and notify nurse caring for patient and CCU nurse when outside of limits.
-Ensure adequate skin/electrode interface and a stable baseline tracing in collaboration with assigned nurse.
-Validate all alarms immediately and notify the CCU nurse and/or nurse assigned to the patient immediately if computer interpretation is correct.
-Take corrective actions as appropriate.
-Archive and delete appropriate alarms from the alarm history.
-Monitor patients on video monitoring and notify assigned nurse regarding any sign of seizure activity.
-Maintain established hospital and departmental policies and procedures, objectives, confidentiality, quality improvement program, compliance, safety, infection control, and environmental standards.
-Maintain professional growth and development through attendance at seminars, workshops, conferences or in-services, professional affiliations, or journals to stay abreast of current trends in field of expertise.
-Meet annual competency and retraining requirements.
-Attend meetings as required.
-Perform other functions/duties as requested.

Licenses and Credentials
Experience
Minimum of six (6) months rhythm interpretation or telemetry monitoring experience preferred
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- The ability to successfully operate telemetry cardiac monitoring equipment and to recognize lethal arrhythmias quickly, communicating this to staff efficiently once trained required.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and follow written and/or oral instructions required.
