The Biomedical Engineering (BME) Department at Carnegie Mellon University is renowned for its interdisciplinary approach to solving complex healthcare challenges. Located within CMU's College of Engineering, the department emphasizes the integration of engineering principles with biomedical sciences to address pressing medical and biological issues. The department is characterized by its focus on creating impactful technologies and therapies that improve patient care and advance biomedical innovation globally.

Carnegie Mellon University's department of Biomechanical Engineering is searching for a Postdoctoral Research Associate to join their team. The postdoctoral researcher will conduct experiments in cell biology, biotechnology, and biochemistry at the CMU automated science laboratory at Bakery Square. Applicants should have experience in cell culture, transfection and transformation, and protein purification and characterization, as well as familiarity with optical and fluorescence microscopy and common techniques of physical biochemistry. While the research is focused on biological sciences, the researcher will work in an automated science lab and formal training in engineering is preferred.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for performing independent research
  • Responsible for maintaining laboratory equipment used to perform research
  • Responsible for reporting progress to project advisor, research collaborators, and
    funding sponsors
  • Responsible for documenting research accomplishments and reporting work in a peer-
    reviewed journal
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Doctorate degree required
  • Demonstrated technical skills
  • Strong publication record and the capacity to work effectively in a multi-disciplinary work environment.
  • Good written and oral communication skills
  • Demonstrated experiences working in a collaborative environment.
  • A combination of education and relevant experience from which comparable knowledge is demonstrated may be considered.
