Job Summary:

This position is responsible for maintaining the Duke Energy Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) devices and network. This AMI Ops Technologist position is responsible for developing the technical expertise needed to run the AMI systems to ensure reliable metering solutions for Duke Energy.

AMI Ops Tech II provides technical expertise to solve more complex AMI problems and leadership skills to provide oversight and direction of work in a specific area of expertise, with some limited supervision. Incumbents are expected to develop advanced skills and the ability to work with a high degree of independence.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Develop subject matter expertise in the company's existing and new AMI systems, networks and devices

  • Analyze and resolve AMI system, network, and device issues

  • Maintain AMI network settings, read schedules, device configurations, device firmware versions

  • Use secure applications to recover missing read data enterprise wide on a daily basis

  • Manage AMI System Test Environments and AMI Meter Labs/Farm

  • Monitor and prioritize down AMI communication equipment during storms

  • Strives to continually improve job-related, technical and professional knowledge, skills and performance.

  • Develops positive working relationships to effectively coordinate work activities. Demonstrates effective oral and written communication skills. Maintains accurate records and files.

  • Supports the company's goals and represents the company positively and professionally.

  • Perform analysis on AMI data to identify patterns, data issues and resolution.

Required/Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelors Degree

Additional Preferred Qualifications
  • Understanding of smart meter head end systems and communication devices including but not limited to mesh and cellular meters, connected grid routers, range extenders.

  • Experience with Duke Energy billing and customer systems.

  • Knowledge and experience with smart grid head end system network directories.

  • Knowledge in work allocation functionality and design including queues, exception prioritization, meter order automation, estimation issue types, and reporting.

  • Experience with Duke Energy work management systems.

  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel.

  • Experience with GIS mapping software.

  • Experience in the Utility Industry

Working Conditions
  • Hybrid - Work will be performed from both remote and onsite locations after the onboarding period. However, hybrid employees should live within a reasonable commute to the designated Duke Energy facility.

Specific Requirements
  • Intermediate Computer Experience (Outlook, Excel, Access, SharePoint, etc.)

  • Demonstrated ability to work with a variety of individuals from various socio-economic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds.

  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
