This Sr Content Developer designs and delivers high-impact learning experiences that empower Southwest Airlines Employees to operate safely, confidently, and in compliance with regulatory standards. Supporting Safety, Ground Operations, and Corporate learning initiatives, this role translates complex procedures into engaging, accessible training solutions tailored to frontline Teams across the network. Leveraging instructional design methodologies, modern development tools, and visual communication best practices, the Sr Content Developer leads the creation of scalable, high-quality content through Southwest University. In addition to driving performance and promoting Southwest's Culture, this role takes on high-profile, complex projects and mentors less experienced Developers. Job Responsibilities:
- Develops effective and engaging learning content using industry-leading development tools.
- Responsible for creating and maintaining all learning material for a specific Customer group, and can include online learning, classroom curriculum, job aids, videos, graphics and performance support tools.
- Works closely with Subject Matter Experts to gather project requirements and ensure the accuracy of the content.
- Plan and estimate project timelines prior to starting their work.
- Build and strengthen relationships with internal and external Southwest University Customers to understand the target audience's needs, what they value, and what works best for them.
- Balances multiple projects at a time to scope projects effectively, meet milestones and target timelines.
- Provides support to Team Members, fosters collaboration on projects and shares knowledge around development, industry trends, and best practices.
- Anticipates project barriers and proactively resolves challenges.
- Lead R&D initiatives to increase innovation and elevate learning.
- Develops in an agile environment, conducting rapid analysis, producing prototypes, and hosting iterative content reviews.
- Conducts quality assurance and testing of the learning content they create. They review the content for accuracy, functionality, and visual appeal, ensuring it meets the established standards and guidelines. They may also conduct user or field testing to gather feedback from stakeholders to make improvements and refinements.
- Design assessments and evaluation methods to measure the effectiveness of the learning experiences.
- Create storyboards, prototypes, and mockups to visualize and communicate the Learning Experience.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Knowledge of e-Learning authoring tools, such as Articulate 360, RISE, Adobe Captivate, Camtasia and other Adobe tools for authoring Instructor and Learner guides.
- Strong understanding of efficient development practices. Their expertise empowers them to strategically plan and execute projects using rapid development methodologies, ensuring efficient and timely completion.
- Strong time management and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple large projects and deadlines
- Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with Subject Matter Experts, Project Managers, and other Stakeholders
- Strong writing and editing skills with the ability to create clear, concise, and engaging content
- Ability to represent professionally on projects with high visibility, impact, and complexity
- Ability to analyze and interpret complex information and to translate it into clear and concise learning content
- Should be able to quickly understand and interpret the requirements and direction provided by others, actively participate in discussions, and communicate their project plans clearly
- Ability to take direction and leverage constructive feedback, enhancing collaboration and driving successful project outcomes.
- Ability to host meetings, showcase content, and address questions professionally and effectively.
Education
- Required: High School Diploma or GED
Experience
- Advanced-level experience, seasoned and specialized knowledge in:
- Learning and Development practices
- Technical writing and or content/media development
- Creating and editing content for digital and print delivery
Physical Abilities
- Ability to perform work duties from [limited space work station/desk/office area] for extended periods of time
- Ability to communicate and interact with others in the English language to meet the demands of the job
- Ability to use a computer and other office productivity tools with sufficient speed and accuracy to meet the demands of the job
Other Qualifications
- Must maintain a well-groomed appearance per Company appearance standards as described in established guidelines
- Must be a U.S. citizen or have authorization to work in the United States as defined by the Immigration Reform Act of 1986
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- Must be able to comply with Company attendance standards as described in established guidelines
Pay & Benefits
- Competitive market salary from$91,250 - $101,400 per year* depending on qualifications and experience. For eligible Leadership and individual contributor roles, additional bonus opportunities are available and awarded at the discretion of the company.
