Job Description Summary:

Collaborates with the supervisor to lead the accessioning and billing teams of The Institute for Genomic Medicine (IGM). Coordinates and assists with the accessioning of patient orders and samples and the verification of billing and patient information.

Job Description:

Essential Functions:
  • Performs sample and order receipt and accessioning, practicing follow-up and documentation procedure. Verifies patient and billing information prior to sign-out.
  • Assists in the instruction and assessment of Accessing staff and facilitates the training of Accessioners on implementation of new CPT codes, new tests, and changes to requisitions. Answers staff questions regarding billing. Promotes a cooperative, supportive, and productive team environment.
  • Manages assigned projects. Predicts and avoids problems using information from quality control checks.
  • Collaborates with the supervisor and manager to maintain technical and procedural operations. Researches, develops, and implements new or improved procedures and instrumentation.
  • Provides efficient and effective customer service, ensuring customer satisfaction and quality patient care.
  • Maintains knowledge of current federal, state, and local laws and regulations concerning laboratory reporting and billing requirements, including yearly updates.

Education Requirement:
  • Bachelor's Degree in a chemical, physical, genetic, or biological science, required.

Skills:
  • Strong writing and proof-reading skill with excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Proficient use of computers, database programs, spreadsheet software and word processing. Proficient troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.

  • Demonstrates the ability to work efficiently and independently promoting a team environment and maintaining a cooperative and supportive atmosphere. When personal workload is light, helps others to stay productive

Experience:
  • Three years of experience in a healthcare environment, required.
