Director, State Public Policy

Reporting to the Vice President of US Public Policy, the Director of State Public Policy will provide strategic direction to inform National Grid's state public policy priorities, partnering closely with Government Affairs and Stakeholder Engagement to develop and implement policy and advocacy strategy within Corporate Affairs.

The Public Policy team pairs policy domain and advocacy expertise and serves as a key fulcrum for collaboration on policy analysis, development, and prioritization with leaders and SMEs across National Grid's business units and functions.

The Director of State Public Policy will lead a small team responsible for developing and implementing comprehensive strategies that align the company's state public policy objectives across the US, anticipate emerging trends, and proactively shape opportunities to drive impactful policy outcomes.

* Lead state public policy strategy, collaborating with colleagues across the business to develop creative and actionable policy positions that align with National Grid's objectives and are tuned to the external environment.
* Lead a small state public policy team, providing strategic direction, expert analysis, mentoring, and professional development while fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and high performance.
* Lead through collaboration state policy analysis and development processes across internal working groups.
* Leverage data and technology to anticipate structural policy trends and critical issues to identify opportunities and risks for National Grid.
* Provide timely updates and analysis to internal stakeholders on key policy developments and trends.
* Collaborate on a set of processes that deliver aligned policy platforms and priorities, as well as proactive and efficient issue management that tracks progress and outcomes.
* Collaborate with internal teams, including Government Affairs, Regulatory Affairs, and Corporate Communications, to ensure a cohesive approach to state policy advocacy.
* Prepare and present reports, proposals, and presentations to senior leadership, summarizing state policy activities, outcomes, and recommendations for strategic action.
* Collaborate on thought leadership and integrated advocacy campaigns, advising on policy, communication, and stakeholder strategies.
* Build and maintain relationships with key external stakeholders.
* As required, represent National Grid in high-level discussions, forums, and collaborative initiatives to enhance reputation promote policy positions.

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent qualification.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and familiarity with policy analysis and advocacy tools.
• Extensive experience in government, government affairs, political campaigns, think tanks, communications and related areas, preferably within the energy, utilities, or corporate sectors.
• Strategic thinker with deep policy expertise with an emphasis on state energy policy in the northeast.
• Strong understanding of state legislative and regulatory processes, as well as the political landscape in relevant states.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to assess complex policy issues and develop shape effective strategies in a complex environment.
• Exceptional ability to collaborate across functions to align policy with broader corporate strategies.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships and influence diverse stakeholders at all levels.
