General Responsibilities |
The Director of Development & Donor Engagement plays a vital role in advancing the mission of the Howard Community College Educational Foundation (
HCCEF). This position is responsible for building and stewarding relationships with annual and mid-level donors, supporting major gift cultivation, and leading strategies that expand scholarship and program funding for students.
Working collaboratively with faculty, staff, alumni, and community partners, the Director connects donor passion with student success. This role also provides opportunities to gain experience with foundation operations, preparing the individual for continued growth in advancement leadership.

Work Performed |
Fundraising & Donor Relations
* Manage a portfolio of annual and mid-level gift prospects, ensuring thoughtful cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship.
* Support major gift identification and cultivation in collaboration with the Executive Director.
* Develop fundraising materials, case statements, and proposals for corporations, foundations, and individual donors.
* Implement a comprehensive stewardship program, including impact reports, student thank-you letters, thank-a-thons, and the annual student-donor luncheon.
Program & Event Leadership
* Serve as lead staff for scholarship programs, donor engagement events, and fundraising initiatives.
* Partner with academic and student affairs leaders to align fundraising strategies with college priorities, including support for programs such as Silas Craft Collegians, Howard P.R.I.D.E., R.I.S.E., Ambiciones, Parent Scholars, and Student Athletes.
* Represent the college at community, donor, and campus events, serving as an ambassador for
HCCEF.
Foundation Operations & Administration
* Participate in foundation management processes, including gift processing, reporting, and audit preparation.
* Lead and manage assigned staff, interns, or volunteers by providing guidance, coaching, and performance feedback to ensure effective support of development operations and donor engagement initiatives.
* Provide staff support for committees and board meetings, including agenda development, meeting materials, minutes, and follow-up actions.
* Contribute to operational planning, process improvements, and cross-departmental collaboration.

HCC offers two retirement options: The Pension, which requires a 7% employee contribution and The
ORP, a 403(b) with a 7.25% employer contribution only. Employees in positions that do not require a bachelor's degree must participate in The Pension. Employees that possess a bachelor's degree and hold professional positions that require a bachelor's degree may choose to participate in either The Pension or The
ORP. |
