Job Announcement

This position serves as the appeals intake coordinator for appeals of zoning administrator determinations, including Notices of Violation. Duties include performing background research on properties; preparing correspondence, maps, advertisements, and notice packages for appeal applications; scheduling and tracking appeal public hearings before the Board of Zoning Appeals (BZA); and maintaining appeals records within the county's Planning and Land Use System (PLUS) application portal. Provides staff and customer support for use of the PLUS system for appeal application and zoning requests as well as providing administrative support to the division director. Additionally, the position issues administrative permits for food trucks and completes the zoning information required for state licensing forms regarding home day care facilities.

Note: The salary for this position will not exceed the midpoint of the advertised salary range ($72,440.58).

In accordance with current Fairfax County telework and personnel policies, this position is eligible for partial telework. Telework enrollment and continuance are subject to supervisor approval and county policy.


Employment Standards

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Any combination of education, experience, and training equivalent to: High school graduation or a G.E.D. issued by a state department of education; plus three years of paraprofessional planning or zoning related work, as defined by the area to which assigned.

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
The appointee to this position will be required to complete a criminal background check to the satisfaction of the employer.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Familiarity with planning and zoning terminology and concepts including ability to read and understand zoning related regulations and maps. Experience in reviewing land use plans, building permits, development plans, survey plats, or other regulatory documents. Demonstrated ability to manage competing deadlines, work independently and efficiently under pressure; be able to proofread documents and identify errors and perform other administrative duties. Applicant should have a minimum of three (3) years demonstrated experience providing excellent customer service in a busy office setting to a variety of stakeholders and be able to clearly communicate technical information orally or in writing to members of the public and other professional staff. Proficient in the use of the Microsoft Office Suite of software (Teams, Word, Access, Excel, etc.) and the operation of peripheral equipment (printers, scanners, plotters etc.). Experience working in the PLUS Database or any other large electronic database. Experience using accessibility check applications or programs to post ADA compliant documents to the Web.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Position is primarily sedentary; however, employee may be required to do some walking, standing, bending, and carrying of items under 15 pounds in weight. Ability to operate keyboard-driven equipment and the ability to access, input and retrieve information from a computer is also required. Visual acuity is required to review site plans, building plans, and related technical documents, as well as to read data on computer monitors. Ability to communicate clearly both verbally and in writing. All duties performed with or without reasonable accommodations.
