The Sr Writer/Editor is a digital-first communicator responsible for the planning and execution of content assets from an Optum business line for Optum's newsroom. You'll work within your business line to understand priorities and develop content that meets the needs of our audiences, creates advocacy and drives measurable results. From charting a course for editorial planning to developing content and overseeing the review process, you'll contribute a strong voice to content creation for Optum. The ability to work under pressure, managing multiple projects and meet strict deadlines is critical.

This position follows a hybrid schedule with four in-office days per week.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Serve as a subject matter expert and write/edit compelling content on behalf of a business segment to support Optum's newsroom
  • Facilitate the full content lifecycle from planning to publishing. This would include, but not be limited to, research, writing, editing, conducting internal interviews with subject matter experts, and securing approval for content. It would also involve working with creative teams on video and design assets.
  • Share editorial ideas and collaborate on content with the Optum social media team
  • Ask effective questions and carefully listen to gather and translate information that will drive creation of clear communications
  • Write/edit content that is aligned with applicable audience/stakeholder needs
  • Write/edit content that is clear, simple, error-free, and grammatically correct
  • Adhere to applicable internal guidelines and requirements (e.g., Legal, Compliance, Clinical, Subject Matter Experts, confidentiality)
  • Adhere to applicable external/governmental guidelines and requirements (e.g., legal, regulatory)
  • Work with Optum communications and marketing teams to evaluate ongoing and long-term opportunities in content
  • Proactively build effective relationships and positive communication with business leaders to develop content that meets the needs of our audiences and creates advocacy
  • Champion Optum brand standards and voice in all communications
  • Understand business dynamics, cycles, products and marketing initiatives and help identify, prioritize and execute content

Required Qualifications:

  • 3+ years of experience in communications, Journalism, Public Relations
  • 3+ years of digital communications / marketing experience
  • 3+ years of experience in a matrixed organization or in working with matrixed organizations
  • Demonstrated command of AP Style
  • Computer literacy (Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Understanding of complex, policy-driven health care topics
  • Knowledge of best practices in digital media

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working with digital newsrooms

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, we offer benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). The salary for this role will range from $89,900 to $160,600 annually based on full-time employment. We comply with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
