About the Job

The Department of Neurology is seeking an entry-level Research Coordinator to assist with conducting participant screenings, research visit scheduling and confirmations, and assisting with data entry and data management in the ALS Research Program under the direction of David Walk, MD. An ideal candidate will have experience conducting human research studies in Psychology, Neurology, Psychiatry, Neuroscience, biospecimen, or a related field in college and/or post-college. The ALS Research Program values professional development and is excited to support the chosen candidate as they advance their research/clinical career.

Duties/Responsibilities:

65% Research Coordination:
*Patient screening, scheduling, and data entry.
*Under the direction of lead Clinical Research Coordinators, perform protocol procedures with participants, including specimen collection / processing (training will be provided).
*Assist with building study visit kits for blood draws and lumbar punctures.
*Maintain accurate, confidential, and complete study records from participant visits.
*Coordinate with and support other Research Coordinators in the ALS Research Program.

25% Data Management:
*Entering, organizing, and maintaining datasets.
*Assist with data entry validation.
*Under the supervision of the ALS Program Manager, assist with building a program participant tracker.

10% Administration:
*Participate in continuous improvement initiatives related to the ALS Research Program.
*Use project management software that is in place for the ALS Research Program to track study-related tasks.
*Attend ALS Program meetings.
*Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

All required qualifications must be included in the application materials

Required Qualifications:
*BA/BS degree in a health-related field (Pre-Med, Psychology, Neuroscience, Social Work, Biology, Nursing, etc.) or a combination of post-high school education and relevant work experience to equal at least four years.
*Experience with assisting with research study visits.
*Trusted collaborator and team player.
*Organized with excellent attention to detail.
*Effective verbal and written interpersonal communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:
*Experience working on a human subject research study.
*At least 1 year of research assistant work or research training experience (e.g. research methods coursework or internship).
*Previous experience with phlebotomy / venipunctures or willingness to learn how to do blood draws.
*Enthusiasm for medical research studies.
*Openness to working on site at the University of Minnesota (Twin Cities) at least 3-4 days per week.
*Must be comfortable working with individuals with serious medical conditions and their families.

Pay Range: $20.67/hr - $30.77/hr; depending on education/qualifications/experience.
