Position Overview The Lieutenant is responsible for overseeing daily operations, ensuring compliance with departmental policies and procedures, and providing direct supervision to assigned staff. This role requires strong leadership, sound judgment, and the ability to manage both personnel and operational priorities effectively. This role may require working evenings, weekends, and hours beyond the typical 40-hour workweek, depending on business needs. As an exempt role, the Lieutenant is expected to exercise independent discretion and decision-making in carrying out responsibilities. Key Responsibilities
- Supervise, mentor, and evaluate assigned personnel to ensure high performance.
- Provide leadership, coaching, and training opportunities to staff.
- Assign and monitor work schedules to ensure operational coverage.
- Participate in hiring, performance evaluation, and disciplinary processes.
- Serve as liaison between command staff and team members, ensuring effective communication.
- Revision of security program plans and procedures
- Participation in self-assessments and working groups
- Maintenance of Security Police Officer qualifications
- Performance of Security Police Officer functions as necessary
- Performance of other security duties as assigned
- Maintenance of other required security certifications
- Reports to the site Commander/Protective Force Manager
- Training and qualification required for SPO
- Trainer for SPO Fitness/First Aid & CPR
Required Qualifications
- This position requires candidates to already possess an Active "L" or "Secret" Security clearance. Additional Department
- Must have a minimum of a High School diploma or equivalent and three (3) years of relevant experience in security, law enforcement, military service, or equivalent experience and education.
- Must be able to successfully complete an extensive pre-employment medical evaluation that includes a strenuous physical agility test
- Must be able to successfully complete a pre-employment psychological evaluation initially and every five (5) years.
- Must be able to successfully complete an extensive training program including non-lethal weapons and weapons qualified initially and semi-annually
- Must be able to successfully pass the initial and annual half mile physical fitness run test and a 40-yard dash test
- Must be able to walk or stand for long periods of time
- Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Must have the ability to read and follow written directives including standard operating procedures, safety practices, policies and procedures
- Must be able to work long shift hours, both day and night shifts, holidays and weekends
- Must be a citizen of the United States
- Must be 21 years of age or older
- Completion of NTC TRF-100D, Introduction to Protective Force, PFT-110, Basic Security Officer Training, PFT-215, Basic Security Police Officer Training, Site-Specific OJT, and Annual Training Plan training/qualifications.
- Must have at least one year of experience working as a Security Police Officer on a DOE contract.

- Additional Department of Energy National Training Center Supervisor/Leadership Courses
- Additional Department of Energy National Training Center programmatic security courses
- Obtain and maintain NTC certification (MIT-111, Basic Instructor Training) for teaching TRF-100 Site-Specific OJT, and Annual Training Plan training/qualifications.
Uniform Requirements The Lieutenant position requires being armed and in full uniform while on duty, with proper title insignia displayed. This role includes wearing full duty gear and body armor. Firearms responsibilities will follow contract requirements and site procedures. Classification This is a full-time, exempt position under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA).
