Business Development Manager

Summary
The Business Development Manager is primarily responsible for lead generation and business development efforts that result in the successful acquisition of work. This role focuses on identifying and securing profitable construction projects with target clients with an emphasis on design-build and GCCM delivery methods valued at $25 million and greater.

Primary Duties

  • Lead development of list of primary customer targets in conjunction with Project Executive.
  • Develop criteria to qualify leads and report on potential project opportunities to the Project Executive.
  • Work with Project Executives to leverage their existing relationships into new opportunities.
  • Assist in the maintenance of relationships with architects, owners, engineers and others outside of the company.
  • Serve as the public face of the business unit, representing the company in all lead generations and business development activities.
  • Track funding and potential project procurement timelines for public laws, bond measures, and levies.
  • Develop initial relationships and bring in the project team to build on said relationships to execute win strategies.
  • Persistent mindset with regards to cold calls and setting up initial conversations with potential clients.
  • Network with architects and project developers to ensure the Abbott Construction name is considered for alternative delivery projects, select bid lists, and negotiated projects.
  • Identifies and procures profitable projects by overseeing all business development activities, including developing customer relationships, networking, performing public relations activities, advertising, and any other activities that further the business development program.
  • Oversees all sales activities, including identifying and pre-qualifying leads, and working on procurement strategies.
  • Coaching and mentoring internal team members in being actively engaged in business development efforts including but not limited to proposal and interview preparation.
  • Participate in the RFQ/RFP process as part of the Work Acquisition team.
  • Solicit and act upon referrals from both inside and outside the company.
  • Assist in establishing a business development budget to be incorporated into the Business Units yearly business plan.
  • Ensure all public relations mesh with firm's overall marketing objectives through paper image, ad visuals, photo placements, website updates, copy review, community service projects, dress attire, and positive attitude by all staff.
  • Represent Abbott Construction in the community by attending appropriate industry events as approved by the Project Executive.
  • Interfaces with the Director of Pre-Construction and Vice President's to ensure consideration of all relevant information and issues during the pre-construction process.
  • Actively logging and tracking client relationships through Salesforce
  • Participate actively in team environment and contribute to successful completion of team goals.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned or required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in marketing, communications, business, and/or construction or related field or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum 5 years' construction-related experience, business development, and marketing experience preferred.
  • Must be able to pass a drug test and background check
  • Utilizes good judgment and remains efficient while under stress
  • Capable of communicating effectively in English both verbally and in writing
  • Strong understanding of sales strategies and construction processes, including project acquisition, and client relationship development.
  • Must have a strong work ethic, sense of urgency, organizational skills, task oriented
  • Excellent interpersonal skills: maintains effective relationships with others by using tact and by being sensitive to others' feelings and needs.
  • Good communication skills both written and verbal; expresses self clearly and effectively; uses proper organization and grammar in written communication.
  • Good presentation skills; effectively prepares formal presentations of ideas and proposals; effectively expresses self to groups and individuals.
  • Is creative; has the ability to generate many workable solutions to a problem.
  • Is persuasive; uses appropriate methods and styles of communication to gain acceptance of an idea, plan, activity, or product.
  • Has working knowledge of Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and other related software.
  • Must be willing to travel if required

The full salary range for this position is $120,000 to $200,000, depending on experience, record of performance, and potential business creation. This position is eligible for a target bonus.

Note: Sick leave accrues at one (1) hour for every 30 hours worked. Accrual for sick leave is capped at 240 hours. At the end of each calendar year, you will be allowed to carry over accrued and unused sick leave up to 240 hours. You will not begin accruing sick leave until you drop below the accrual cap.
