Overview

General Dynamics Electric Boat, the nation's premier designer and builder in nuclear submarines, is seeking a Material Planner to join our Material Control team. Material Control maintains warehouse and buffer storage for all submarine programs.

Position Summary:

  • The Material Planner is responsible for supporting all submarine programs by providing oversight and troubleshooting issues
  • The successful candidate must be able to make timely, accurate decisions and work independently
  • Will be responsible for maintaining inventory accuracy levels at 97.5% or greater and will be expected to initiate and implement corrective actions if levels drop below that threshold
  • Compile audit results for submittal to GD Corporate on a monthly basis
  • Prepare and adjudicate inventory for Navsea 08 audits
  • Assist management with forecasting inventory levels and spatial requirements
  • The Material Planner is expected to understand and comply with company policies and procedures, assist warehouse personnel in resolving questions, and evaluate current processes while leading or supporting process improvement initiatives to reduce warehouse costs and improve customer service
  • Address customer questions and problems, and provide direction to warehouse personnel as needed

  • Troubleshooting warehouse and receipt issues
  • Supporting disposition of excess material
  • Managing Rejected Material
  • Working with Auditors
  • Reviewing and updating Department Instructions
  • Conducting root cause analysis
  • Writing Engineering Reports
  • Working directly with Customers

This position is located at our Quonset Point facility in North Kingstown, RI.



Qualifications

Required:

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in the shipping, material control, and/or transportation field
  • Must be available to work all shifts
  • Must be able to utilize PC applications for Manufacturing Resources Planning (MRP), Electronic Desktop (EWP), Microsoft Office and Inventory Tracking Systems (ITS)
  • Must possess strong organizational skills, and be able to multi-task in a fast paced environment
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance from the Department of Defense

Preferred:

  • Associates Degree or higher in Business or Supply Chain Management
  • 3 or more years of experience in the shipping, material control, and/or transportation field
  • Knowledge of warehousing and inventory control
  • Shipyard experience
  • Military/Navy experience
