What do our Canine Handlers do?

The primary purpose of this role is to partner with a trained detection dog to perform specialized inspections that identify and confirm the presence of bed bugs in residential and commercial environments. You will be responsible for caring for and handling your canine partner, conducting thorough inspections, accurately documenting findings, and working with customers and teammates to ensure effective treatment plans, all while adhering to safety regulations and providing excellent customer service.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

• Handle, care for, and maintain the health and training of a certified bed bug detection dog

• Conduct inspections of client properties, including homes, apartments, hotels, and offices, using canine detection methods

• Accurately document and communicate inspection findings to customers and internal teams

• Collaborate with service technicians to confirm results and recommend treatment plans

• Educate customers on bed bug prevention methods and inspection results in a professional manner

• Safely transport and house the detection dog in compliance with company and regulatory guidelines

• Maintain inspection equipment and ensure your service vehicle is properly stocked and in good working condition

• Build strong customer relationships by delivering professional, trustworthy, and effective service

Essential Job Functions:

• Working in varied environments, including residential, commercial, and hospitality settings

• Regularly walking, bending, crouching, and navigating confined spaces such as basements, attics, and crawl spaces

• Working both indoors and outdoors in your local climate (company-provided weather gear available)

• Safely handling and transporting the detection dog, which may include lifting or carrying equipment and supplies

• Wearing personal protective equipment (PPE) as required, including an OSHA-compliant respirator when necessary

What do you need?

• High school diploma or GED; related experience with canine handling or training strongly preferred

• Must possess a valid driver's license from state of residence (company vehicle and gas card provided)

• Available to work Monday-Friday and Saturdays as needed

• Strong reading, writing, and verbal communication skills with the ability to present inspection results clearly

• Basic math skills - ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, fractions, and decimals

• Ability to work independently and manage a daily schedule across multiple job sites

• Willingness to complete required Terminix training and certifications for bed bug detection

• Customer-facing experience preferred
