Job Overview:

The Manager develops, implements and monitors department goals and objectives, and ensures compliance with all applicable policies, laws and regulations.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum 5 years of Central Supply experience
  • Strong communication and organizational skills
  • Proficient computer skills

Preferred:

  • 3+ years in a supervisory or leadership capacity

  • Bachelor's Degree in a healthcare or related field and a minimum of 3 years of sterile processing or perioperative leadership experience in an acute care hospital

  • CER or CFER Certification

Certifications and Licenses Required:

  • CRCST - Certified Registered Central Sterile Technician through IAHCSMM or CBSPD

Essential Functions:

  • Provide strong team leadership, able to motivate staff and respond to individual and team needs
  • Able to develop a strong team culture dealing appropriately with staff conflict
  • Demonstrate collaboration and partnership skills with physicians, Service Line Managers, OR staff, administrative staff and others
  • Effectively lead and facilitate team meetings
  • Self-directed in own personal development, setting outcomes, seeking resources or learning, seeking and accepting feedback
  • Able to plan time, organize workload and delegate effectively and efficiently
  • Understand hospital-wide objectives and priorities and incorporates them into departmental goals
  • Support and participate in the Magnet Recognition process
  • Clinically skilled, familiar with sterile processing developments
  • Assure that the standards of operation for the department are in compliance with the standards set by regulatory agencies, i,
  • e, JCAHO, NJ DOH, OSHA and AAMI
  • Ensure established procedures and standards of practice are followed for decontamination, cleaning, processing and sterilization of reusable instruments and equipment
  • Responsible for the control of the hospital-wide reprocessing functions, including determination of the appropriate method of reprocessing, including, but not limited to, collection and transport, decontamination, packaging, sterilization, disinfection, storage and distribution of reprocessed items
  • Monitor and maintain sterilization records according to state guidelines
  • Coordinate repairs and refurbishments and replacements of all instruments and equipment working collaboratively with Biomedical Engineering
  • Actively collaborates in recruiting, interviewing and hiring with the Human Resources department
  • Demonstrate effective management and progressive discipline for performance issues
  • Perform timely and meaningful feedback and evaluations consistent with RWJUH's policies and procedures
  • Communicate effectively with staff and promotes two-way communication
  • Proactively promote staff satisfaction and retention and takes prompt action to address concerns or issues
  • Develop unit's salary and non-salary budgets annually to meet sterile processing care delivery goals
  • Effectively allocate and schedule unit resources to meet workload demands
  • Explain any significant variances to VP, Perioperative Services and Finance
  • Identify and plan for routine capital purchases and replacements
  • Responsible for the continual efforts in cost savings opportunities with respect to alternative products or third party services
  • Analyze equipment and inventory spending patterns to maximize cost-effectiveness
  • Serve as an Infection Prevention/High Level Disinfection resource for the organization, an active participant with the Infection Control Committee
