Job Overview

The Merchandise Movement Analyst supports & analyzes the Return-to-Vendor, Transfer, and Return Logic activity. This colleague plays a crucial role in supporting strategies to optimize inventory and reduce expense. Daily support work includes supporting merchants who are trying to submit RTVs and helping stores that need a transfer, RTV, or damage adjustment. This colleague will play a key role in proactively reviewing return logic to guide setting changes. They will also produce reporting to project financial results and monitor RTV & transfer processing. Special Projects will be assigned as needed to aid in alleviating unproductive inventory or adjust return logic.

What You Will Do



  • Provide support to merchant teams to help them submit & research RTV or Transfer requests.
  • Facilitate RTV approvals by following accounting standards and partnering with Merchandising pyramid leaders.
  • Publish weekly transfer and RTV reporting to merchandising & store operations partners.
  • Create monthly financial projections detailing what Macy's will receive through the reverse logistics processes.
  • Partner with Store Operations & Shortage Control teams to improve compliance using existing weekly reporting as well as ad-hoc reviews.
  • Create ad-hoc reporting to review the current Store Return Logic and make setting change recommendations.
  • Partner with Leased teams to report on transfer activity & update Return Logic settings.
  • Work closely with Macy's Technology to make large setting changes, research system issues, and develop future enhancements.
  • Foster an environment of acceptance and respect that strengthens relationships, and ensures authentic connections with colleagues, customers, and communities.


Skills You Will Need

Analytical Aptitude: Strong analytical skills, including trend and pattern recognition, to drive data-driven decision-making.

Teamwork: Collaborative personality able to build relationships across the organization, build consensus, and move projects forward.

Communication: Ability to communicate complex logic & analyses in a clear, precise, and actionable manner with all levels of the organization.

Independence and Prioritization: The ability to work independently and prioritize tasks is essential for managing multiple responsibilities in a fast-paced environment.

Technical Proficiency: Proficiency with Microsoft Excel required. Knowledge of SQL preferred for analyzing data and generating reports.

Who You Are



  • Candidates with a Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience in a related field are encouraged to apply.
  • Regularly required to sit, talk, hear; use hands/fingers to touch, handle, and feel. Occasionally required to move about the workplace and reach with hands and arms. Requires close vision.
  • Able to work a flexible schedule based on department and company needs.
