The School Health Nurse provides comprehensive school health nursing services, utilizing both in-person and virtual platforms, on a contractual basis to public school districts, charter schools, independent schools, early childhood and childcare centers, before and after school programs and camps. Practicing in the School Nurse Consultant (SNC) model, the nurse provides family-centered care as demonstrated by recognizing the child and family as a full partners in providing compassionate and coordinated care based on respect for patient's preferences, values, and needs. The SNC aligns with local and state public health partners on community health promotion and disease prevention. The Program also provides support through consultation, referral information, training, delegation and supervision to unlicensed assistive personnel in school and childcare sites throughout the state. The program strives to support and facilitate the successful transition of children with complex health needs into the school and community environment and to promote partnerships between the Children's Hospital, the educational system, families and community programs. Ensure mandated school health services in the educational environment, by identifying student health needs, interpreting health data, serving as the health expert, developing and implementing health care plans either self or through delegation to unlicensed personnel (in accordance with the Nurse Practice Act, Chapter 13), and implementing screening programs and follow-up. Contain spread of disease by monitoring immunizations, utilizing and educating on disease control methods, educating on infectious and nuisance diseases and assisting in policy development and implementation. Assesses the health of the school community/communities in their assignment by surveying health issue trends, monitoring accident and incident reports, gather surveillance and screening and interpret for needed change, assess risk and protective factors and communicate health and wellness issues to the school and community/communities, as requested. Provides nursing interventions in compliance with current hospital and state regulatory guidelines (CDHS, CDPHE,etc.) policies, procedures, protocols and guidelines. Advocate for the physical and emotional safety in the school environment by education and initiating prevention programs while intervening, as needed. Participates in achieving the goals of the department/ division/ organization. Involved in unit based/dept shared governance committees focused on care coordination or population health. Participates in quality improvement/evidence-based research activities, building relationships internally, as well as with other school health programs to collaborate and share best practice/data that has benefit to the health of children across the region and nationally. Leads School Nurse clinical education and training programs through the use of evidence based practice with internal/external subject matter experts. Minimum Qualifications Education: Bachelor of Science of Nursing (BSN) Experience: 3 years in school nursing, public health, and/or pediatric care Equivalency: None Certification(s): Required completion of certification within first 3 years of employment of School Nurse (RN-BC) (ANCC) or National Certified School Nurse (NBCSN) or School Nurse Practitioner (SNP-BC) (ANCC); BLS/CPR from the American Heart Association with at least 6 months left before expiration is required upon hire. LICENSURE(S): Current Colorado Registered Nurse (RN) license A current Colorado Department of Education (CDE) Special Service Provider (SSP) license is not required to apply, but once hired, there is a 3-year induction period monitored by school health nurse leadership, and is renewed every 5 years Salary Information As part of our Total Rewards package, Children's Colorado offers an annual employee bonus program that rewards eligible team members based on organizational performance.
