Position description

Researcher in Neuroimmunology (A)

Department of Psychiatry

University of California, San Francisco

The Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences is now recruiting an Assistant Specialist. The position duties include:



  • Designing, conducting, and analyzing experiments related to the fields of developmental neuroscience and neuroimmunology, specifically neurodevelopmental disorders.
  • Proficiency in several laboratory techniques including perfusions, tissue processing, immunohistochemistry, tissue clearing, confocal microscopy, flow cytometry, primary cell culture, cloning, AAV production, new animal model generation, animal behavior, postnatal intracerebroventricular injections, and single-cell RNA sequencing.
  • Animal model husbandry and colony maintenance, with a specific focus on developmental staging, pup handling, pup injections and pup surgeries.
  • Preparing manuscripts, assisting in grant applications, and presenting research at conferences
  • Training and mentoring junior lab members in research techniques and best practices
  • Managing project timelines, resources, and laboratory records
  • Ensuring compliance with safety, ethical, and institutional guidelines


Required Qualifications:



  • Assistant Specialist- A master's degree (or equivalent degree) or a bachelor's degree with three or more years of research experience.
  • Associate specialist- A master's degree (or equivalent degree) or five to ten years of relevant experience.
  • Full Specialist- A terminal degree (or equivalent degree) or ten or more years of relevant experience.
  • 5 -10 years of experience in a neurobiology laboratory


Preferred Qualifications:



  • A PhD
  • Experience in in mouse development and neurodevelopmental disorders, genetics, and neuroimmunology.
  • Should be able to maintain mouse colony, genotype, collect brain and other organ samples for processing, perform immunohistochemstry, flow cytometry, RNA isolation and qPCR, assess developmental milestonesa and animal behavior, neonatal pup surgery and handling, single-cell RNA sequencing, primary cell culture, AAV production, and cloning.
