JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS

The Career Services Coordinator is responsible for supporting Greater Allegheny students with career development guidance, programs, and resources across multiple academic disciplines; collaborates with students, employers, faculty, and staff to facilitate career exploration, professional skill-building, and successful career transitions; partners and forms relationships with employers to match individuals with career opportunities. This opening will assist in the development of the GA Ready initiative, a new campus-wide comprehensive career readiness strategy.

Job Duties Individual Student Services
  • Hold 1:1 career exploration meetings and career coaching/counseling sessions with interested students to:
    • Explore possible majors and career pathways.
    • Assess career goals, skills, interests, qualifications.
    • Assist students in identifying and building confidence in key skills they've developed.
  • Meet with students to review and assist in the development of job search materials (resumes, cover letters, LinkedIn profiles, etc.) and discuss job search strategies and resources.
  • Conduct mock interviews.
  • As part of the GA Ready initiative, help coordinate other campus professionals in providing the above services to students.
  • Create and manage an online sign-up/scheduling process for delivery of individual services to students.
Programming and Event Planning
  • Host career development related workshops on topics like career exploration, resume and interview preparation, soft skills education, employer networking, professional communication, and office etiquette.
  • Independently or in collaboration with Penn State Employer Engagement Specialists, host employer connection opportunities (on campus and virtual) through:
    • Career fairs
    • Employer spotlights/presentations
    • Recruitment/awareness tabling
    • Third-party material consultation (resume workshops, mock interviews, etc)
    • Networking/Etiquette events
  • Create opportunities that leverage Penn State's alumni network in helping to connect students with mentorships, internships, and job opportunities.
  • Assist in developing a NACE Competency micro-credentialing initiative through existing campus programs.
Communication and Promotion
  • Manage/maintain a local job board, including seasonal and short-term opportunities.
  • Identify and promote career development-related opportunities across the Penn State system.
  • Monitor and publicize third-party career development opportunities happening within the region to students (career fairs, workshops, etc.).
  • Develop and issue a student facing newsletter with information about career services and upcoming opportunities.
  • Champion and promote centrally located career service resources to students (Focus2, InterviewPrep, etc).
  • Monitor and promote career opportunities within the region.
  • Develop and maintain other communication strategies to engage students and alumni.
Collaboration and Resource Management
  • Collaborate with career services professionals across the university to improve resources, services, and opportunities available at Greater Allegheny.
  • Serve as point of contact for University Park and regional liaisons.
  • Collaborate with campus internship coordinator to identify potential employer partnerships and prepare students to search and apply for opportunities.
  • Assist in the management and promotion of the campus Career Closet (providing free professional attire to interested students).
  • Manage physical campus resources relating to career exploration and readiness.
  • Maintain a knowledge of the available resources and career platforms in the Penn State network and support students in their usage.
  • Connect students with external opportunities and resources as they become available.
Miscellaneous
  • Collect and analyze data to evaluate program effectiveness, outcomes, and employer engagement trends.
  • Work closely with academic departments, faculty, and other University offices to integrate career development into the student experience.
  • Develop and maintain communication strategies to connect with students and alumni to encourage engagement with Career Services.
  • Serve on committees and initiatives to give a career readiness perspective as necessary.
