Center of Excellence for Medical Advocacy - IDEXX Veterinary Diagnostics The Center of Excellence for Medical Advocacy at IDEXX Veterinary Diagnostics, within the Global Medical Organization, advances veterinary medicine by shaping the medical narrative through education, advocacy, and scientific influence. The COE engages the full spectrum of veterinary professionals - general practitioners, specialists, and academic institutions - by providing trusted education, fostering collaboration, and supporting adoption of innovative diagnostics. Through initiatives such as Academic Affairs, Specialist Engagement, and Key Opinion Leader (KOL) development, the COE ensures IDEXX remains a credible and valued partner across the veterinary community. Role SummaryThe Specialist Support Veterinarian (SSV) plays a critical role in IDEXX's strategy to engage and support veterinary specialists. This position strengthens relationships with specialty practices, academic institutions, and corporate accounts by delivering trusted medical education, peer-to-peer support, and thought leadership. The SSV team helps accelerate awareness of IDEXX diagnostics, drives belief in quality, enhances the specialist customer experience, and ensures IDEXX remains a valued partner in advancing clinical care. Key Areas of Focus* Peer-to-Peer Engagement: Build credibility and trust through direct specialist-to-specialist interactions, consistently sharing the value and scientific rigor of IDEXX diagnostics and ongoing innovation. * Specialist Education: Develop and deliver impactful education - live, virtual, and on-demand on diagnostic best practices, product innovation, and clinical integration. Support specialist learning needs across oncology, internal medicine, and other disciplines. * Strategic Partnerships: Strengthen specialty customer experience by supporting on-boarding of specialty hospitals, expanding engagement within corporate accounts, and collaborating with universities to influence resident and student training. * KOL Development: Identify, engage, and nurture new specialty KOLs across clinical and academic settings to expand IDEXX's voice of authority and medical advocacy footprint. * Commercial Alignment: Partner with commercial teams, Professional Services Veterinarians (PSVs), and corporate accounts to align on strategic priorities, support market development, and expand specialist relationships. * Innovative Education Support: Help design and deliver education that enables veterinarians to understand, adopt, and implement both clinical care best practices and new diagnostic innovations. Primary Duties & Responsibilities* Collaborate with commercial, corporate account, and university teams to engage specialists through targeted education and relationship-building. Organize and facilitate planning with regions to create highly effective engagement plans. * Deliver in-depth seminars, continuing education, and presentations at regional, national, and international meetings. * Design, develop, and deliver medical content for specialists, including training resources for PSVs and commercial colleagues. * Provide subject matter expertise on diagnostics and clinical applications, ensuring alignment with IDEXX's medical narrative. * Contribute strategic insights to cross-functional projects, product launches, and long-term advocacy initiatives. * Support the recruitment of KOLs across specialties and geographies. * Develop innovative education that helps specialists and other veterinary professionals integrate clinical care advancements and adopt new diagnostic technologies effectively. Education & Credentials* Required: Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM or equivalent) with Residency Training and Board Certification (ACVIM/ECVIM - Internal Medicine, Oncology, or equivalent specialty). Skills & Competencies* Specialist Credibility: Ability to engage peers with authority, grounded in specialist training and clinical experience. * Collaboration & Influence: Builds strong relationships across internal teams, external stakeholders, and diverse customer groups. * Operational Readiness: Skilled in self scheduling, strong record keeping, and organized engagement strategies. * Strategic Thinking: Identifies opportunities to enhance specialist engagement and drive organizational priorities. * Education & Communication: Skilled in developing and delivering clear, compelling medical education for advanced audiences. * Adaptability: Balances scientific depth with commercial awareness in diverse settings (specialty hospitals, universities, corporate accounts). * Technical Expertise: Ability to master diagnostic technology, interpret data, and translate insights into clinical relevance. Work Environment & Demands* Office-based with extensive travel (35%) to specialty practices, universities, corporate accounts, and conferences (domestic and international). * Regular phone, video, and computer use. * Occasional evening and weekend work to align with specialist schedules and events.
