Department:Federal Work/StudyDepartment's Website: Summary of Job Duties:A.Purpose of JobTo support the Child Development and Safety Center as a reading tutor. B.Duties and Responsibilities Literacy tutors in the America Reads program at CCCUA must qualify for the Federal Work-Study funds, be able to work congenially and effectively with children, adults and caregivers, and be willing to work where assigned by the Financial Aid Office. Literacy tutor assignments in the America reads program must involve direct interaction with children, adults, and caregivers in actives related to, and only to, literacy development. The assignments may include reading aloud to children, parents and caregivers; listening to children, parents and caregivers read; providing intervention in reading problems; discussion of reading content as related to reading comprehension; assisting with reading assignments in content areas; assisting with alphabet learning, and guiding written language through dictation; and/or proofreading and editing. Literacy tutors may work only with children in elementary grades and preferably in preschool through Grade 5, parents and caregivers. Literacy tutors in the America reads program may work individually with children, parents, and caregivers whose performance is below that expected of the age and/or grade, or work with children, parents, and caregivers in small groups.
