Primary Purpose of the Organization:
The School of Social Work, located in the College of Humanities and Social ( CHSS) at Fayetteville State University, prepares students to become competent social work professionals at the undergraduate and graduate levels. The primary goals of the School of Social Work are to promote lifelong learning and to enhance the well-being of individuals, children and families residing in rural, urban, and military communities throughout North Carolina the nation and the world. In the School of Social Work, we are Committed to excellence in teaching, scholarship, service, and leadership. Faculty members strive to alleviate poverty and oppression, advance social and economic justice in a multicultural society and in the global community.
Primary Purpose of the Position:
The Associate Dean is a visionary leader who is the School of Social Work's chief academic officer for both internal and external affairs. As such, the Associate Dean works collaboratively with the School's faculty, staff, students, as well as university administration, alumni, donors, and community partners. The Associate Dean, in collaboration with the Dean for the College of Humanities and Social Sciences, administration, and faculty, provide strategic leadership to foster, promote, broaden, and maintain the academic excellence of the BSW, MSW, and Certificate programs. The Associate Dean position is a 12-month position.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Associate Dean reports to the Dean of the College of Humanities and Social Sciences, and he/she is a member of the CHSS leadership team. Under the general direction of the Dean of CHSS, the Associate Dean is responsible for the entire scope of planning, operations, and resource management for the School to ensure the smooth execution of the School's administrative, instructional, service, and research functions.
The duties of the Associate Dean are instructional and administrative. Duties and responsibilities of the Associate Dean will include leadership with respect to personnel, budgets, and administration. More specifically, the Associate Dean will exercise responsibilities to include the following key areas:

Strategic Leadership:

  • Utilizes effective communication and public relation skills to articulate the school's vision, mission, goals, objectives, and accomplishments to diverse constituencies.
  • Promotes community, state, national and global partnerships as well as strengthens donor and alumni development to meet the school's priorities.
  • Executes decision-making that promotes equity, transparency, collaboration, and empowerment. Recruits, retains, and supports a diverse body of faculty, staff, and students.


Academic Innovation and Quality:

  • Ensures the deliverance of outstanding BSW, MSW, and Certificate programs that attract exceptional students and prepare them for impactful careers for the public good; particularly among marginalized, impoverished, and oppressed populations, as well as military, rural and urban populations.
  • Oversee and monitor all Council on Social Work Education (CSWE) accreditation processes.

Scholarship and Faculty Development:

  • Promotes rigorous evidence-based inquiry and excellence in research.
  • Fosters efforts to cultivate, develop and secure new research initiatives and funding streams; and maintains and nurtures a vibrant and diverse faculty.
  • Promotes a robust culture of excellence in teaching, community service and research within the School and builds outreach partnerships and collaborations across the University, regionally, statewide, nationally, and globally.

Management:

  • Manages the school's education programs, human and financial resources, to achieve the School's and University's missions.
  • Markets the University in general and the School of Social Work in a manner that increases student enrollment, retention, and graduation rates.

Fundraising:
  • Communicates School's strengths and establishes ongoing relations with alumni, community partners, foundations and corporations, and successfully raises funds for the building of the School's financial infrastructure as well as for student scholarships, internships, faculty and student research and professional development initiatives.
External and University Relations:

  • Works collaboratively and builds relationships with other social work programs nationally and promotes community partnerships.
  • Engages in community outreach as well as collaborates with departments across the University to promote excellence in teaching, service, and research.

Minimum Education And Experience Requirements:

  • The Associate Dean minimum qualifications include:

  • MSW from a CSWE accredited program with two years post-Master's practice experience in direct and/or macro practice and Ph.D. or DSW in Social Work or related field.
  • A record of excellence in teaching, research, and service equivalent to the rank of a tenured Associate Professor or full Professor.
  • Demonstrated success in securing funding to support research and/or academic programs, and Academic administrative leadership.
  • Experience with accreditation, financial management and developing new programs preferred.
