POSITION SPECIFICS

Penn State Global is seeking a dynamic and creative Education Abroad Adviser and Outreach Coordinator (EAAOC) to join the Education Abroad Advising and Engagement team at Penn State's University Park campus. This role is central to promoting and supporting global learning opportunities for students at all Penn State campuses. In addition to advising students on study abroad options, the EAAOC leads large-scale outreach initiatives, event planning, and digital engagement strategies that connect students with global opportunities early in their Penn State experience.

The EAAOC manages a limited advising caseload while also driving communication and marketing efforts, coordinating Education Abroad's social media and digital presence, and supervising student assistants. The successful candidate will be responsible for the following:

  • Design and implement outreach and communication strategies that increase awareness and participation in education abroad opportunities across all Penn State campuses
  • Lead large-scale event planning, including the annual Education Abroad Fair, and coordinate Education Abroad's presence at university-wide and campus events (e.g., New Student Orientation, Accepted Student Programs, and other invited opportunities), ensuring appropriate staffing and materials
  • Oversee Education Abroad's social media accounts and digital presence, managing content strategy and supervising student interns/content creators
  • Recruit, train, and supervise student assistants to support outreach, events, and digital engagement efforts
  • Use data-driven tactics to evaluate outreach efforts and adjust strategies to effectively engage diverse student populations
  • Manage an advising caseload for assigned education abroad programs, supporting students through program selection, application processes, pre-departure preparation, and return from abroad
  • Maintain program information pages, estimated cost sheets, and application materials while liaising with international partners on program updates and student support
  • Support pre-departure orientation activities, including workshops, events, and online resources related to academics, health and safety, cost and billing, and emergency protocols
  • Collaborate with Penn State colleges, campuses, and international partners to promote programs, share resources, and ensure accurate information
  • Additional administrative tasks or projects as assigned

This position is based at the University Park campus, with a hybrid work schedule possible. Due to the nature of the role, candidates should expect to work in person a minimum of three (3) days per week with a remote option available on the other days.

Required Experience:

The successful candidate will demonstrate excellent communication, organizational, and event-planning skills, creativity in outreach and marketing, and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively. Proficiency in Microsoft 365 and Canva is required.

The Education Abroad Adviser and Outreach Coordinator is responsible for maintaining up-to-date knowledge of the fields of education abroad, international education, and higher education marketing. Engaging in continuing education and professional development opportunities will empower the adviser to implement best practices and innovative approaches to ensure quality service to students and stakeholders.

Preferred Experience:

  • Experience developing and implementing outreach, marketing, or communications strategies, especially within higher education
  • Event planning and coordination experience, including managing budgets and logistics
  • Experience supervising or mentoring student employees or interns
  • Experience living or studying abroad or working in a multicultural environment
  • Experience advising undergraduate students
  • Familiarity with Terra Dotta or other education abroad management systems
  • Experience with managing or creating web and social media content
  • Commitment to equity and belonging practices and demonstrated success in supporting diverse student and/or faculty/staff populations
  • Interest in sustainable practices in education abroad and familiarity with The Forum on Education Abroad's Guidelines for Advancing the UN Sustainable Development Goals

MINIMUM EDUCATION, WORK EXPERIENCE & REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS

SALARY & BENEFITS

The salary range for this position, including all possible grades, is $46,400.00 - $67,300.00.
