Responsibilities & Expectations: This position reports to the Engineering Manager and is responsible for overseeing and performing electrical engineering and related activities associated with electrical power distribution projects, including: electrical calculations, equipment design, system troubleshooting, work scope preparation, AutoCAD drawing packages, project cost estimation, test procedures, test reports, and project manuals. The position will involve project management and working with engineers, technicians, administrative personnel, suppliers, and end customers. This is primarily an office position with frequent field travel to jobsites.
- Project Management: Develop and manage electrical low voltage and medium voltage power distribution projects from conceptual design through final commissioning. Most important focus is on the electrical engineering aspect; however, expect involvement in other aspects of the design process (i.e. structural, mechanical, etc.). Ability to manage multiple priorities under time sensitive deadlines
- Engineering: Electrical design tasks may include electrical load calculations, short-circuit and overcurrent protection calculations, transformer and wire sizing, etc. Other typical design aspects may include preparation of skid layout and design, enclosure layout, wiring diagrams, etc.
- Testing: Must be familiar with and able to support the electrical testing of power distribution equipment, including: switchgear, transformers, circuit breakers, VFDs, MCCs, starters, relays, meters, CTs, and PTs. Support field technicians in performing various electrical tests, such as: insulation resistance, contact resistance, transformer turns ratio (TTR), power factor, overpotential (hipot), and winding resistance, in accordance with NETA, IEEE, and manufacturer standards
- AutoCAD Drafting: Develop electrical equipment and power distribution equipment drawings; prepare electrical single line drawings, schematics, layouts, and detail drawings as required
- Field Visits: Perform site visits on project opportunities to prepare cost estimates for customer RFQs, evaluate and troubleshoot customer electrical equipment, and inspect progress of ongoing projects
Qualifications and Competencies:
- 6+ years of direct engineering experience
- 3+ years of experience in electrical design/construction industry highly preferred
- Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering (ABET Accredited) or equivalent degree highly preferred
- Professional Engineer is preferred, but not required
- Participate in continuing education programs in multiple aspects of electrical power distribution
- Must have strong computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, etc.)
- Practical experience and proficiency with AutoCAD 2D. 3D knowledge is preferred, but not required
- Electrical testing of medium voltage and low voltage electrical distribution systems.
- Testing and calibrating of protective relays and meters
- AutoCAD and/or Inventor Software experience
- Start-up and commissioning of variable frequency drive.
- Must have a strong attention to detail and a high level of accuracy
- Must have strong written and verbal communication skills
- Must have good customer relations skills and able to remain calm during stressful situations
- Ability to work under pressure in a challenging fast fast-paced environment
- Must have time management skills. Ability to plan and manage multiple projects and tasks
- Ability to take direction and act independently. Must also be able to work well with a team
- Ability to manage multiple priorities, stay organized, and demonstrate leadership skills.
- Must be a self-starter and able to make quick decisions
- Must show a history of being reliable and dependable. Ability to work overtime as required
- Driving to meet with customers likely required in this role
- Must be willing to submit to the background and drug screening process
