We have created the SmithGroup Design a Better Future Scholarship to support and mentor students in architecture, interior design, urban planning, landscape architecture and engineering (civil/structural, mechanical, electrical and fire protection). The program's mission is to provide these students with the opportunity to attain their professional goals while advancing the architecture/engineering/construction (AEC) industry and improving the built environment.



SmithGroup fosters an inclusive design process where teams comprised of individuals with diverse backgrounds and perspectives develop thoughtful design solutions to address complex real-world problems. The SmithGroup Design a Better Future Scholarship is intended to support the next generation of talent by providing students with academic support and the opportunity to gain professional experience in the design industry. It includes a one-time award of $6,000 to offset tuition at their current academic institution (5 scholarships are awarded each year) and a paid summer internship ata SmithGroup office in theUnited States. Students who demonstrate a strong commitment to fostering inclusion within their university, community, and/or AEC industry are encouraged to apply.



Eligibility:



  • Applicants must be a current undergraduate (at least a junior level standing) or graduate student in an accredited architecture, interior design, urban planning, landscape architecture or engineering program in the United States.
  • Applicants must be an enrolled student during the Fall 2026 semester as scholarships are paid directly to the academic institution.
  • Applicants must be available for a paid summer internship.
  • Applicants should have a current GPA of 3.0 or better.
  • Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the U.S.
