A reasonable estimate for this position is $70,977 - $77,561. The posted salary rate range is for a full-time 100% appointment. Salary will be prorated based on the percent of appointment for part-time lecturer positions.

Position description

The Native American Studies Department at the University of California at Davis welcomes applications for undergraduate courses in the Winter and Spring quarters of 2026. The Learning Management System (LMS) at UC Davis is Canvas. Pay is based on course enrollment and number of courses assigned. The Department website can be found at: https://nas.ucdavis.edu/.

All courses are 4 units. For course descriptions, please see https://nas.ucdavis.edu/courses. Candidates should be prepared for in-person teaching.

A Ph.D. is preferred, but we welcome candidates who are ABD, hold an M.A. degree in a related field, and/or who have previous experience teaching at the college/university level.

Quarter Dates



  • Winter Quarter: January 2, 2026 - March 20, 2026
  • Spring Quarter: March 26, 2026 - June 11, 2026


Salary:

The posted salary range is for a 100% appointment for a Unit 18 Lecturer, which is based on teaching an average of 6 classes per quarter. The average expected appointment for this position may be 42-50% over one quarter. Payment for teaching an individual course is a fraction of this salary range based on the student enrollment of the class.

Winter Quarter



  • NAS 165: Keepers of the Flame


Spring Quarter



  • NAS 119: Federal Indian Law


Spring Quarter (one hemispheric course)



  • NAS 120 : Ethnopolitics of South American Indigenous Peoples
  • NAS 173v: Hemispheric Indigenous Connections - may be taught virtually
  • NAS 191: Topics in Native American Studies. We welcome courses that teach in a hemispheric perspective and/or focus on Indigenous issues in Canada, Pacific Islands, or Latin America.


Should additional lecturer units become available for either quarter, we welcome applications for additional courses that have not been recently taught, e.g.:



  • NAS 116: Native American Traditional Governments
  • NAS 122: Native American Community Development
  • NAS 125: Performance and Culture Among Native Americas
  • NAS 157: Native American Religion and Philosophy


Qualifications
Basic qualifications (required at time of application)

  • JD or ABD in NAS, NAIS, Ethnic Studies, or related disciplinary field.
  • Previous experience teaching at the college/university level.

Preferred qualifications (other preferred, but not required, qualifications for the position)

  • Ph.D. in the aforementioned or related fields is preferred.
