Job Summary
Make a meaningful impact at UT Dallas through Audit and Advisory Services.

In This Role, You Will
Conduct assurance and advisory engagements, investigations, and other projects that provide objective and independent evaluations in support of the department's vision and mission. You will provide risk-based and objective assurance, advice, insight, and foresight to management in the areas of governance, risk management, and control. You may serve as a project leader or contribute as part of a team, while also performing other duties as directed by audit leadership. The primary work focus will be on IT-related engagements.
Minimum Education and Experience
Bachelor's degree in an applicable field. At least three (3) years of related professional experience. PREFERRED: Having and maintaining at least one of the following credentials Certified Public Accountant ( CPA), Certified Internal Auditor ( CIA), Certified Information Systems Auditor ( CISA), or Certified Fraud Examiner ( CFE).

  • Five years of experience in auditing.

  • CIA or CISA certification completed or in progress.
  • Three or more years of experience in IT auditing.
  • Foundational knowledge of key IT frameworks and standards such as COBIT and NIST.
  • Experience with IT general controls, application controls, cybersecurity principles, and data privacy regulations.
  • Familiarity with system implementations and IT-related risks and controls.

Other Qualifications
To the extent this position requires the holder to research, work on, or have access to critical infrastructure as defined in Section 117.001(2) of the Texas Business and Commerce Code, the ability to maintain the security or integrity of the critical infrastructure is a minimum qualification to be hired and to continue to be employed in the position.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The Internal Auditor III is responsible for effectively and efficiently performing the following responsibilities and duties, primarily in IT-related engagements.

Conducts and Leads Engagements

  • Conducts engagement-level risk analysis and planning to define a project's objectives, scope, and methodologies.
  • Develops audit programs for routine audits and/or project plans to achieve objectives.
  • Collects, researches, analyzes, and observes appropriate information, data, and evidence to achieve project objectives.
  • Compiles data from the University's information systems and other internal and external sources.
  • Conducts interviews, questionnaires, and surveys.
  • Utilizes audit management software to conduct work.
  • Uses appropriate sampling, artificial intelligence (AI), and data analytics tools to enhance audit processes and achieve objectives.



Engagement Documentation

  • Prepares thorough, well-organized, and self-explanatory working papers to support conclusions.
  • Identifies and assists with the development of issues and recommendations.
  • Drafts observations and recommendations resulting from work performed.


Project Management and Quality Assurance

  • Coordinates the work of other team members when leading projects and provides guidance and instruction.
  • Provides the first review of work papers generated by team members.
  • Monitors time budgets and target dates for assigned projects.
  • Evaluates the effectiveness of the audit process at the conclusion of each engagement.
  • Coordinates audit steps to follow up on outstanding audit issues.


Client Relations

  • Leads entrance and exit conferences.
  • Identifies and develops issues, negotiating with clients to arrive at sound and effective recommendations.
  • Keeps clients informed of project status, barriers to progress, and potential issues to ensure transparency.
  • Conducts professional communications to understand processes and gather audit evidence.
  • Collaborates with campus stakeholders to support audit activities and build positive client relationships.


Internal Communications
  • Informs audit leadership about the status of work performed, potential issues and solutions, and client relations.

Report Development

  • Drafts project reports.
  • Evaluates client responses to recommendations.


Other Duties and Responsibilities

  • Maintains and continually develops competencies as required by the Global Internal Audit Standards through professional education and training.
  • Travels to off-site locations for audit work and professional conferences (as needed).
  • Works occasional evening or weekend hours (infrequent).
  • Participates and volunteers in professional auditing organizations.
  • Assists audit leadership with meetings, training, and other team events.
  • Performs other projects and duties as assigned.

  • Expected to comply with the Institute of Internal Auditors' (IIA) Global Internal Audit Standards.
  • Meets IIA core competencies related to internal auditing, professionalism, governance and risk, and operations.

Technical Proficiency

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office 365 Suite.
  • Demonstrated ability to use audit software effectively.
  • Ability to learn and adapt to new auditing techniques and technologies.

  • Strong problem-solving skills to identify issues and develop effective solutions.
  • Ability to analyze appropriate types of information to achieve project objectives.
  • Creative thinking and innovation to improve audit processes.

Project & Task Management

  • Demonstrated ability to develop project plans to achieve risk-based objectives.
  • Skilled at managing multiple tasks and prioritizing effectively.

Communication & Documentation

  • Ability to compose clear, concise audit reports, findings, summaries, memos, and related correspondence.
  • Demonstrated ability to prepare thorough, well-organized, and self-explanatory work papers to support conclusions.

Physical Demands and Working Conditions
Use of computer and other standard office equipment. Moderate noise level. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and occasionally required to walk or drive to locations on campus.

Remote Work Notice
A hybrid remote work schedule may be available. Employees must be located within the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex area and have the ability to be on campus for work activities as scheduled and/or with 24-hour notice. Completion and approval of a UT Dallas Remote Work Agreement will be required upon employment, and use of personal computer, internet, and other standard equipment may be required. Remote work arrangements are subject to regular review and re-approval and may be canceled at any time.
