Responsibilities

Orion Space Solutions, an Arcfield Company, is seeking a Data Scientist to quickly integrate with existing teams of scientists and engineers on a variety of programs for government customers. This individual will work under the guidance of technical leads on programs to develop AI/ML models and extract maximum value from observations and models of Earth's space environment.

  • Develop AI/ML models to predict parameters of interest from remote sensing (ground-based and spaceborne) and in situ observations of the space environment
  • Understand characteristics of the space environment and their implications of AI/ML model development in this domain
  • Work with teams of scientists, engineers, and program management to develop software tools intended for eventual transition to operations
  • Be responsible for software and accompanying technical documentation for program deliverables
  • Communicate technical results to internal and external audiences
  • Provide inputs on the use of AI/ML models for proposals to new opportunities

Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, Aerospace Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or similar field. BS 0-2 years of experience
  • Strong skills in Python-based development
  • Experience with using Linux
  • Experience with scientific computing and data science libraries in Python (numpy, scipy, scikit-learn, etc.)
  • Ability to develop AI/ML models through TensorFlow, PyTorch, or similar
  • Familiarity with scientific data formats (NetCDF, etc.)
  • Understanding of software development best practices
  • Willingness to learn concepts in plasma physics, space situational awareness, radio frequency sensing, and beyond
  • Strong communication skills

Desired:

  • Experience in Docker or similar
  • Experience in cloud computing
  • Familiarity with signal processing basics, including frequency domain analysis
  • Strong background in physics, statistics, and linear algebra

Equal Pay Act

This is the projected compensation range for this position. There are differentiating factors that can impact a final salary/hourly rate, including, but not limited to, Contract Wage Determination, relevant work experience, skills and competencies that align to the specified role, geographic location (For Remote Opportunities), education and certifications as well as Federal Government Contract Labor categories.
